Borders needs to share their secret with other places of business. I just got back from our local Borders, and once again I am totally amazed by how efficient they are at moving shoppers through their checkout lines. I'm also always impressed by their competent, knowledgeable employees.

I don't care if the line at Borders winds around ten aisles and reaches to the back of the store. They STILL manage to keep the line moving. Kind of like the soup Nazi in that Seinfeld episode.:rotfl: Only more friendly!

The employees are always very helpful, and when asked a question, they usually know the answer. When waiting on you at the checkout, they always seem pleasant, like they actually LIKE their job.

I just LOVE Borders!:)

My Dad is a manager at one, and I too love how great they are. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that all workers are assigned locations for a block of the shift. There is always someone who's only job is to be a cashier. Then there are the people on the floor helping and taking calls.

There is a brand new beautiful Borders down the street from my office. I go there on my lunch hour. I can browse, pick out a bunch of new books, stand in line & be back in the office with time to eat my lunch! I can't do that in any other store around here.

I LOVE our Borders! The staff are always so friendly and helpful!

I love the way Borders does it, and it isn't that hard! Staff the registers. Duh.

Other stores are equipped with tons of registers that sit empty and long lines at the open ones. Drives me bonkers.

Why do they put in all those registers if they aren't going to USE them???

I can honestly say that I have never been to one, but after reading your posts, I will hunt one down and try it.

The bookstores that I frequent should not even be categorized as such, so if there is a better alternative -- I want to find it. It sounds like it's worth the extra distance and I'll pack up the kids and take them on the next family expedition. Thanks for letting me know!!:thumbsup2

Borders is worth a trip! The selection of books is excellent. The kids section is fantastic, too!

I feel the same way about Borders. However, we have a Borders Express in our mall and I think they may send the Borders reject employees to work there. Whenever you ask a question they just stare at you blankly.

I've always LOVED Borders. I sure hope one will be going up in the new shopping center by my house. :goodvibes

Borders is one of my favorite stores. :goodvibes However, I don't really like the fact that they have a band playing there on Saturday nights. A band (with a usually bad singer :rotfl: ) at a Borders Cafe? Just seems weird. :confused3 I LOVE the store the rest of the week though! :)

Or you can order from amazon. :) It is a nice bookstore, but I wouldn't make a trip to go to Borders or Barnes & Noble anymore than I'd make a trip to go to Olive Garden, KWIM?

I love my local Borders too! :) My sister and I are there at least once every week and the staff never fails to be friendly. The cafe is great as is their selection of books, and I love their rewards program! I racked up so much money on the Borders Rewards this year...I got two free DVDs!

I also preordered Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last week at our Borders. And of course I'll be at the midnight party they have their when the book is released.

What town is it in? I know you said the one by you is a new one. I also have one a block away from my job in Bohemia.

I went to the Lake Grove one this past Saturday and could not believe how long the line was. It went all the way to the restrooms and was wrapped through book shelves like a maze. I thought I would be there for hours, but surprisingly it only took about 25 minutes to get to through!

We don't have a Borders nearby, but our Barnes & Noble is like that. :thumbsup2 They have a very low turn-over so you see the same employees all the time. Haven't had a problem with any of them.

One of our favorite things to do as a family on saturday night is to go out to dinner at The Outback and then over to B & N. :)

That's wierd that you say that.....I thought it was just the Borders by me....turns out they're all like that? Who knew? I love Borders, everytime I looking for a specific book - I go there, and the employees help me search for it, call around, look on the computer, order it for me and then call me when its in. I really like Borders.

Same at the one in Commack today! Line was LOOOOOOOOONG but there was this adorable child (around 3) who sang "twinkle twinkle little star" and made us all smile (words were not quite right like most three year olds) and then promptly threw herself on the floor (in silent protest) when she didn't want to move up in line :rotfl:

I love their computers, they make it easy for independent shoppers who know their way around.

Absolutely my favorite store. Like another poster, I racked up a ton of points on Borders Rewards this year. Got my Christmas cards for free, along with a few children's books for my niece and nephew. The absolute best customer rewards program ever IMO.
And the staff is ALWAYS friendly and helpful. I go to three different ones on a fairly regular basis, and it's the same at all three.
