Good Morning Everyone.

Numbers for March 126.7 miles.

Ashleigh: Glad you enjoyed your extra time with DS. Have fun with the new stroller.

Shan: Enjoy your trip to WDW. What a great deal on the GA Marathon.

Jeanne: Enjoy the sunshine. You still have plenty of time to ramp up your miles before October. Slowly but surely and you'll get there.

Jason: I hope the training for the 5K is going well. It is fun to run the same race for a second year to mark your progress.

Lauren: Hope the allergies are behaving.

Suzanne: Have you decided where to go for your family vacation? We started a list recently because it hit me that with my son turning 8 we really have only 10 more summer vacations before he is out and on his own. Scary. On our list are: NYC, DC, Grand Canyon, NC Outer Banks, Canadian Rockies, Hawaii, Alaska. I'm not sure we'll get to them all, but it's nice to think about it.

Megan: Hope all is well.

Joanne: Congrats on working at the Marathon. I agree, I hope I don't see you either, at least in a medical capacity.

Angie: How cool that you make your own maple syrup. I've always wanted to do that, but since we have only 1 or 2 maples in our yard I don't think it would be worthwhile. Now if I could find something to do with acorns or pinecones I'd be in business.

I rearranged my schedule this week to get my long run in on Sunday since the weather forecast was for torrential rain for Monday. Thank goodness I did. I had a wonderful 20 mile run in sunny and cool temps. I am now officially in taper mode for Boston. Unfortunately I sometimes translate taper for slacker and I am having a hard time getting motivated to finish off the training. I put off my tempo run from yesterday partly because I was pressed for time, more so because it was still raining. Today's forecast is much better, so I am planning on getting out there at lunchtime.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Quick March mileage update....

127 running & biking miles plus 66 miles for XT for a total of 193.

Don't forget everyone....you get 1 mile for every 15 min of other XT activity.

Maura

44.4 miles in March...most of it this week! :)

I haven't posted in a while and I need to get caught up on older posts :)

Things are going GREAT! I am pretty happy with my miles in March.

30 miles walking/running plus 4.5 hours XT (18 miles) = 48 miles total! :cool1:

My conservative C25K is going really, really well. Today was the last week of phase 2, or W8D3. I made the transition from running in 30 second segments to 1 minute segments this week since the run/walk times were same as last week. I am still amazed at how I notice improvement at each and every session. :thumbsup2

As for the "side effect" results, I was down 8 pounds as of Monday and I have lost a full size. :yay:

Hey everyone!

March miles: 44 *bleh*

I've been pushing myself on my speed and I've gotten up to running a ten minute mile for a little while (a very little while) before I have to drop back down. Good progress I thought. But I woke up this morning with knee pain, which I've never had before. I wanted to get you all thoughts? Man up, take some Advil and run today anyway, or leave it alone and see what it does? Just wanted tos ee what the more experienced folks though. :goodvibes

Todd: You were in the hospital?! :scared1: How did I miss that? Glad you're back home now!

Here's to this month being better than last for all of us! :yay:

OK, back to the real world, or at least home. I didn't work today, but I grocery shopped for Easter dinner, etc. and did other errands. I did get in 1000 meters at the pool and a 20 minute wog (jog 3, walk 2). I'm 5 days in to my self-imposed, self-directed tri training camp and I've made every workout and every distance in the plan. The real test will come next week when I return to my regularly scheduled life!

So here is my drama... I bought new running shoes last week. They are the 'next generation' model of my old shoes. I loved my old shoes, but I didn't buy the new ones blindly. I went to a real running store, with real runner salespeople. I tried on other shoes. I ran on the treadmill in the store. I did all the 'right' things. Well, today was my first wog...and my right foot cramped up something fierce. Ugh! Now I'm afraid that I spent $120 on shoes that aren't right.

Suzanne: Where are you thinking about vacationing? I've lived in every corner of the country (at least once) and been across it several times (East-West or West-East on 3 different routes, and N-S or S-N on each coast), so chances are I've been there. We turn our cross-country moves into vacations with stops along the way, so we've seen a lot! In fact, I actually counted and in 2007, my family visited 17 states (including Alaska and Hawaii)!

Sorry I've been away for so long, my Goofy friends. I coulda sworn I posted here about the Princess Half, but in reading back over the March thread, it appears I failed to do that.

Here's my long overdue race report: I was slightly injured (sore left shin) so I RICEd it for 2 solid weeks prior to race day. The leg was sore on race morning so I set my sights on simply finishing the race, slapped on some Biofreeze and made my way to Corral B. (That's right, B! It was amazing to almost be able to see the staging area for a change!) Since I was in B, my plan to do a 2.5:1 run/walk ratio and shoot for just a "don't get swept" time goal flew out the window. Much like Suzanne, I think I also ran the first mile without a walk break, but mostly because I didn't want to cause a 10-person pile-up when I stopped to walk.

The shin felt OK once we got moving, so I started having delusions of possibly beating my PR. But I stopped for lots of photos and developed both sore hip flexors and epic blisters. So despite having a goal of just finishing, I ended up pushing myself -- while still counter-productively stopping for photos --- and then felt disappointed when I missed my PR by 4:13. Therefore, I crossed the finish line with lots of mixed emotions. But the good news is I shattered my "course record" by over 25 minutes.

The blisters and still-present shin soreness have kept me away, but I think I'm slowly getting back on track. I'm assistant-coaching a Couch to 5K program with TNT, so that's getting me out there at least once a week. My total March miles, even after doubling for the Princess, come to 30.7 (not counting the theme park walking I did during our WDW vacation).

Welcome to the newest Goofs and congrats to all on your March miles. I hope we're all healthy (esp Todd ) and can be as active as we'd like to be this month. Enjoy the spring weather!

Does putting a kids gym set count as XT? 8 hours in and at least another 16 to go!!! Boy this is fun. Skipped my run today because of this. I'll get up early tomorrow so I get a few miles in.

Hello Goofs!!

I am in the process of updating miles for March so if you have any to report, please post them!! So far, I have miles from Maura, M, Jeannette, Lauren, Kim, Cindy, Jason, Shan, Rich, Angie, Jeanne, Ashleigh and Todd.

Spring is here and all of my beautiful flowers are in bloom! I took a picture of my front yard yesterday and will share it later. Here in Florida, we go from Spring to Summer very quickly and then its too hot for most flowers so I love the few weeks inbetween.

As for vacation, we are almost decided. On the short list, Alaska, Hawaii or fly to Baltimore and take an 8 night cruise with stops in Canada, Maine and Boston. Hawaii is in the top 3 on my life list so we are most likely headed in that direction. Next summer, we are going back to NYC for my daughter's 16th birthday by her request. We were there last summer and she loved it!! I promised her a cake/cupcake/pastry from Carlo's bakery in NJ (the Cake Boss guy from TV) on her birthday.

17 years ago today my husband and I got married and both families said it wouldn't last!! How long have each of you been married??

Two races coming up for me, a 10K on the 17th that benefits the Susan G Komen breast cancer foundation and a 5K on May 1st that benefits Habitat for Humanity. Whats on your race schedule?

Good afternoon Goofs!

Got out this morning to a 15 mile run. I don't know how long it took, unfortunately - it was raining, so I hit "lap" at the halfway point, took the Garmin off, and put it in the Camelbak. Within a minute or so, the "stop" button must have been pressed, because it recorded nothing beyond that. Oh well. I can double the distance easily enough, and I recorded the time when I finished, so a little math will give me the time for the leg back. It was definitely slower, because it rained more, and it was into the wind. Fun run though.

Hawaii is beautiful - we went to Maui and Oahu. I lived in Alaska for 5 years, so ask away if your travel plans take you there!

Happy Anniversary Suzanne! How long have I been married? Almost exactly 15.5 years. Next week will be 16 years since we were engaged. No one said it wouldn't last (at least to our faces) but we did get a lot of "Aren't you young?" We were 21 & 22 when we were engaged, but we had been together for 5 years, graduated from college, had real grown-up jobs and had moved away from home (almost 4,000 miles from home!), so we weren't sure what else we were supposed to wait for. :) We got married on my 22nd birthday.

Race sched: two tris later in the summer - SheRox Philly 8/1 and Nations Tri 9/12 & I'll be running hte WDW Half again in January. DH is running a tri in July and DS11 wants to run one or two sprints. He would like for me to run a sprint with him again this year, but I think that is mostly because he smoked me on the run last year. The kid runs 7 minute miles!

Hi all! Hope everyone is ready for a lovely holiday with their families! I am...and as an added bonus, it's my birthday, too!

I got my new jogging stroller yesterday. We took DS to the zoo in it yesterday afternoon and I loved it for that! I was going to go out for a run with it this afternoon as it was 84 degrees outside and DS would stay warm, but then a cold front moved in and the winds were gusting and blowing dirt all over the place and the temp dropped to 56! So we had summer this morning and then spring this afternoon. Needless to say, I did not take the jogger out for my run. And my run was not much fun...at least the parts when I was running into the wind! Running the other way was nice, though! I am in week 4 of C25K and it is going great! I have repeated a few weeks because when I do the week once, I focus on increasing my endourance. When I repeat the week I work on increasing my speed. It has been working out really well for me, so I think I will stick with it.

Have a nice Easter tomorrow all you Goofs!

Spring!!

Hey Goofs, remember me? It's probably been close to a month now since I've posted. Sorry about that but life has been insanely busy lately. I had to put in a lot of hours at work before our trip to Los Angeles last month. After I got back, I've been struggling to get caught up. With all the projects here, I've been putting in a lot of hours from home too which has killed my DIS time. Things should be slowing down in the next two weeks and life can hopefully get back to normal.

We had a fun time in LA though. We got to go to Disneyland and DCA a day each and competed in my first super sprint triathlon just before coming home.

I doubled those miles and with my other miles I had 98.8 for March. I wish I could have done a lot more but my workout time has been limited lately too.

I'll try to catch up on past posts but just wanted to wish you all well and say hi to our new members.

Take care everyone! Talk to you soon.

-steve

Hi Steve, glad to see you are OK, just really busy! I will add your miles to the totals.

4/4 update 15232.04 - 98.8 = 15133.24

Lauren Hope your knee is feeling better. My answer to your question of wheteher to run is "It depends". I know that I get occasional aches/pains (like onset of IT band issues or strained tendon/ligaments) and I can run through those. The key is--I don't have any pain or discomfort when I run. If I do, then I don't (run, that is!) A day or two of rest won't mess up your training schedule, so take it off.

M Can you take the shoes back? If ou've only run in them once, I would like to think the store would be accommodating.

Kim Congrats! That's still a good results for you. I hear you about the pciture thing and burning time--I have never stopped for pictures at any of the Disney races I have done. Too concerned abut my time.

Jason Swing sets are a killer (and taking them down is no fun either--but don't think about that !) Good luck for finishing.

Suzanne Happy belated anniversary. My DH and I have been married 25 years---and he still doesn't like DIsney!

Rich 15 miles...is this marathon training?

Steve Glad to see you back. I was doing some advance scouting for my DL trip yesterday. Trying to deicde whether I want to splurge and stay at one of the DL hotels. I hate to say it, but I can't get too excited by the thought 'cause they seem so ordinary and not "resort-y" like WDW. I guess I'm spoiled by all the landscaping/scenery/space at WDW.

As for me.

Went cycling yesetrday and 8 miles today (which were tired). Easter dinner prep starts soon and.....

GO RED SOX. BEAT THOSE %^#%$@#@# YANKEES!
