April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

I have been busy planning our Alaska cruise and can plainly see I have missed A LOT here. We leave in 23 days and when I get back I will be ready to go full swing here.

I am experiencing buyers remorse. I elected to be frugal and get an inside cabin. I really want a balcony. I am selling all my worldy belongings and my adult son so I can afford one. However, there are NONE to be had. Do you think DCL will get tired of me calling and asking to start a waiting list?

Try to be one of the first to board and go straight to purser to see if you can upgrade..I was surprised that a few people actually got to on the inaugural Alaska...some very last minute cancellations.

Dear Hawaiian cruisers,

We were on the 10 night Christtmas holiday cruise just before the Dream came out.

There were 2 women who had ordered Disney tropical fabric, usually matching or complimentary (ie one would have a sleeveless top and the other a camp type shirt, etc.)

I asked them where they got them, they said they had them made. and they told me where, but I have misplaced the name. I have an excuse.....we were on the tram at Castaway Cay!

Anyway, if ANYONE knows who made the clothing for these women, Iam sure we could order shirts from that company. There was no problem with copywrite as far as they were concerned.

Hi everyone,
Apologies for not being on the boards much. DH and I each lost an aunt over the past month so much of our time has been on calls back home to South Africa. Also have my cousins little boy who will be 3 soon and has been battling cancer since he was 18 months old. He had another operation last week to remove more tumors and some of his muscles, should hear an update after his follow up appointment tomorrow, please keep the little boy in your prayers.'........................................................................................................................................................................................................... Prayers sent your way for your little guy...have a little 12 month grandson..what a worry for everyone in his family...Sorry for the loss of your aunt....Wishing you a great birthday celebration..my sons 25th is this year...wow time does fly !

First Alaska wasn't sold out so I wouldn't compare the likelyhood of an upgrade being available for this cruise like it was for that one. I think some folks from the LA/Vancouver repo who were doing a B2B got blasted with some pixie dust for the Alaska cruise too. :thumbsup2

1.) Celebrating on the ship to Hawaii----definitely yes. We are still planning on Hawaii being our official honeymoon....so it will be 15 day celebration of our marriage for us! Incidentally, we called DVC already to let them know that our upcoming trip to WDW and 4 night on the Dream will be our first vacation since our LEGAL marriage, so we intend to wear the "happily ever after/just married" buttons and so they put "honeymoon" on our reservation for us-------but the Hawaii cruise is our real honeymoon becuase our actual wedding will be either the weekend of March 30th or April 13th...so Hawaii will come right after that. I don't know if Disney cares if you list two different vacations as your "honeymoon" with their booking---probably not----but we will be doing it anyway...and actually we're probably going to register this cruise as our official honeymoon online as a gift registry and invite guests who want to buy us gifts to log on and to prepay portions of our tips, excursions, spa packages, Disney dollars gift cards, etc.----which is a nice perk offered as a wedding gift registry through Disney that our Travel Agent told us about....and would certainly help with some of the incidentals on this trip!

A HUNNYFUND! What a GREAT idea!

Bob and I have been thinking about alternatives too. A lot of you, and Bob, have Hawaiian style shirts, with tropical prints which include Disney characters, made and sold by Disney. I haven't found any tropical Disney material nor these type of shirts sold in volume (you can find individual items on Ebay). If we could find the material or the shirts for sale, we could all wear the same shirt.

Bob also suggested maybe we just get shirts made with material similar to the dress Lilo wears, with text on it unique to our cruise. This would be simple to do and we would all have the same cruise shirt.

The design I am working on would be unique to our group and cruise but would not have the Disney characters exactly. I am working on a concept that has multicolored flower leis shaped sorta like Mickey balloons in different sizes, with images in the center of the balloon. The images include a map of Hawaii, a castle, a cruise ship with two stacks, etc. Along with the balloons would be six surfboards each with it's own color and image on the board; a red bow, a pink bow, a blue sailor hat, a green floppy hat, a pair of red shorts with yellow buttons and a green dog collar and bone. I have text indicating our cruise dates, ports, etc. in the images.

A six inch border would be at the bottom of the shirt. It is multi-color hibiscus, like the lei balloons, with cruise text in a strip between the flower borders. I like the idea of a border at the bottom of the shirts, because it breaks up the busy design on the shirt and it makes the shirt design more vertical rather then horizontal.

I'll keep working on it and see what Becky and her artist says. Unless the group is no longer interested in having me continue on this.

Sandy,

Thanks for sharing your experience! Much appreciated!

I guess the main reason I am not a fan of Deck 1 and 2 is that I generally use the stairs to get around on the ship since the elevators are so busy (slow/crowded). By being on deck 5, it is only a couple decks either way to get to the top or bottomo but if i were on deck 2, I would really need to hoof it to get to the top of the ship. I guess it is a not a real big difference, but it is also just what I am used to, I guess too

This is our reason for preferring the higher decks!

There always seem to be things opening up when the final payment is due (sorry, do not know when that would be as we book on points) so you could try then for the upgrade!

Congrats. We are booking our airfare this weekend. We held off because we weren't 100% sure what names to put on the reservations until this past monday.....when we officially did the legal marriage thing and we decided we would both be using my last name from this point forward...so we're now legally married----Erik & Jason Libey! :thumbsup2

(It was quite an eventful weekend as we were one of the first couples in Rochester to get our license and so we were on several news stations, got interviewed and quoted, etc.)

Congrats to the Libey Family!!!!!

Haven't booked airfare and probably won't for months.....of course with me it is all contingent on Jamie. She promises me she is going on this cruise to Hawaii, so hopefully, she won't get some offer at the last minute to work for Disney again and she won't jet off to Orlando on the same day I fly to Long Beach again!

Luckily, we are really close to Long Beach and I can always drive.

I love the idea.

I browsed for custom Hawaiian shirts and came across this company in California:

I'll put in two cents for creating a fabric pattern that is 1.) unique to our group (even if it means creating yet ANOTHER logo/signature) and 2.) that REFERENCES Disney/DCL without explicitly including characters. For example your idea of "creating mickey balloons" out of flowers is a good one....or making hidden mickeys in a tropical print/pattern....or a mickey ears hat out of other objects (which is kind of like what Jordak did in his logo.....and I still think you should see if they can create something with that logo because it's really nice AND it's not quite as explicitly Disney).

As an example....the company that many people use for TShirts is Cafe Press...and they are notorious for shutting down ANY item design that might be a copyright infringement. I've had quite a few designs get nixed over the years....but one that I DID get away with was I took a family trip in 2007 and we put the date on the shirt and I turned the zeros in 2007 into a mickey head.....and it got by the censors/copyright folks:
DisneyPhotoImage10.jpg

(if you look closely at this photo you can see the mickey head on the shirts.....and yes, if you can read it.....the shirt says "No Fun Vacation 2007" on it (with the word "no" scratched out)....for those who haven't heard that story...I'll have to post it later! :thumbsup2)

An abstract mickey head or mickey hat could easily be made with a sun, a beachball, clouds, flowers...or anything tropical...or a combination.

I'm still in!! Whatever you decide on I'm sure will be awesome, and we would purchase two shirts. Thanks again for all of your great work.:worship:

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Congratulations, guys! (Did you wear special vests for the occasion?)

Val, we really appreciate your work on the designs! They were SO clever! I loved most of them and it's really a darn shame they won't be used. Disney should steal your ideas and have some made up to sell on board!

happy day, all!

Corinna - I think this concept is a great idea. It is a similar to what my Bob was thinking when he mentioned just a logo on a "Lilo dress pattern". Thanks for finding them. They are only asking for an order of 50ish too. Great find.

Erik, thanks for the photo. This is the idea I have been playing with too. Using parts of images from Jordak, Milliepie and some of my own, I've been playing with ideas. Here are some from my workboard - definately still in the draft stage.

Thanks - right now my idea is to come up with six different surfboards, like the one I showed with the 'pluto' representation, for the fab5 and daisy. Then six different balloons in two different sizes, like the Jordak design one I showed. The last picture is what the material would look like with all three elements, the bottom trim, balloons and sufboards put together.

But the company you found is a really good alternative. I am working on a logo idea I think might work. This design is adapted from something Kreative Design by Kelly had out on the web as free clip art.

Yeah, Salt Lake to Long Beach isn't bad, especially when I pay to ship all the scrapbook stuff down there and then the post office loses one of my boxes! :rotfl: (I can only have a sense of humor about it now, it wasn't very pleasant at the time)

Anyway, Jamie wants to go a couple of days early, so we may end up driving down on Friday after I get off work. If not, I'll ship my stuff UPS to Adrienne and Tony and then pick it up after we fly in.
