Attention scrapbookers - here is a link to my favorite online store that just introduced their own designed Disney's papers etc. I need to contact them and remind them to expand more into cruise theme...they have also gathered a lot of the available from other vendors and have it on sale for 2 days only. I have done a lot of their custom items also and they do a great job...

Val, thank you for all your hard work. I think everyone appreciates your effort. I for one don't want this company in trouble so I thoroughly understand where Becky is coming from. We are all adults and can handle it if the shirts don't come into fruition. It's just your hard work that would be upsetting.

Very well said!

congrats. We are booking our airfare this weekend. We held off because we weren't 100% sure what names to put on the reservations until this past monday.....when we officially did the legal marriage thing and we decided we would both be using my last name from this point forward...so we're now legally married----erik & jason libey! :thumbsup2

(it was quite an eventful weekend as we were one of the first couples in rochester to get our license and so we were on several news stations, got interviewed and quoted, etc.)

congratulations!!

I didn't realize it either....I only looked at it a little bit....but it appears that if you register your Disney vacation as your honeymoon, then you can make a "wish list" of things including spa packages, prepaying your gratuities, excursions, Disney giftcard, etc. and the site then breaks those things up into smaller increments (like a $200 spa package gets broken up into ten $20 gifts) and then people can go on and pay for pieces. You can even have people make contributions towards the balance on your actual cruise----but of course only if they do so before your PIF date.

I need to research it a little more...but since Jason and I have already lived together for over 8 years and we really don't need the "home stuff" that most people get for weddings....we thought this might be a better way to go.

That is so great!!!

How many cruisers on the 15 day are from Long Beach? Feels so good to know that I am less then 5 miles from the Port of Los Angeles.

Well I am not in Long Beach but I live right next to LAX (convenient for work). So I am about 20 min from the port.

Hey Guys "CONGRATS!!! :woohoo:
Angel & I are very happy for you!

Will/Is there a way to ship stuff directly to the ship in LA like there is in FL? We are thinking about shipping our FE stuff (once we get it) directly to the ship so that we can save some money instead of shipping to AK first. (sorry if this question has already been addressed...I haven't read all of the pages yet).

A photography group idea sounds really cool. I know my husband will be excited for an excuse to use his camera some more!

Welcome to all the newcomers! We're so glad that you'll be on board will us!

YES, send your name, sail date, ship name, stateroom number on a packing slip and state the contents of the package....it needs to be there on the Thurs before departure. Send to:

Metro Shore Services
Berth 93A
World Cruise Center
Port of Los Angeles
San Pedro, CA 90731

We might want to add this info to page one incase anyone else wants to ship something. I'll be shipping our champagne girls things.

I was going to wait to mention anything about the shirts until I had something positive to post but as there have been questions I felt I should bring you all up to date now.

When I had originally spoke with the company about making us shirts, I explained a little bit about who we were. I gave them links to the DISboards web site and our thread. I wanted them to see who we were and get your input. They were incurring the cost of having an artist work on design with no promise, other then my assurance we were serious about wanting the shirts.

In response to concern over using Disney characters in our design I explained: (quote from an e-mail)

"Anecdotal information seems to indicate that if you ask Disney or pirate their products for gain, or the use of the designs are brought to their attention, they do pursue the issue. However, our past experience has been that Disney seems to turn a blind eye to the use of their characters and designs by groups on the ship. There are a number of people who make decorations for use on the doors on the ship. They use the Disney characters on their products and have been selling them on EBay for a number of years. Every cruise literally hundreds of the doors on the ship are plastered with magnets and pictures that are either hand made or the cruisers had had made, using the Disney figures. Groups have tee shirts made with the name of the cruise and Disney characters. The DISboards postings are covered with homemade graphics using the Disney forms."

Based on this exchange we all proceeded. I sent some graphics and they sent back mockups of the pink shirts and black and purple shirts with Lilo & Stich and cruise text. I then sent a number of the concept designs I had posted here - the top three we had voted on, but with updates based on feedback, all with Disney characters. They gave me positive feedback concerning the concept designs and we were working on the technical issues of using them. They had their artist working on mocking up three new designs for us to look at.

Early last Wednesday morning I got a call from Becky. This was the morning after the heated but resolved exchange on our site. She explained they felt they could not use the Disney characters in a shirt design. She expressed concern that if someone bought the shirts, not just for their personal use, but sold them to the public outside our group, Disney might take action. (perhaps in jest, this had been mentioned on our site). She also mentioned if someone with a 'vigilante complex' or someone who had an issue with our group contacted Disney about the shirts we could be in trouble. There is no way I could assure her this would never happen.

So, the designs are out. I promised to try to come up with something that pleases everyone - don't know if that is possible, but I have been trying to come up with something. I have gotten written approval from Jordak and Milliepie that I can use their design concepts, without Disney characters, for shirts we would have made "for our personal use". I have sent these authorizations to Becky. So since last week I've been trying to develop something. My plan is to run everything by Becky before posting the one I hope might meet approval. If/when I get the ok, I'll see what you all think.

Sorry my news isn't any better. Oh, before I forget, before all this hit the fan, I had been told the material is 56 inches wide.

Val

In the past, we have just ordered blank shirts and put our own graphic on it. We can make the shirts and a graphic available and whoever wants to can purchase the shirt and print out the graphic on transfer paper and do an iron on. It's always worked for us.

Hi everyone,
Apologies for not being on the boards much. DH and I each lost an aunt over the past month so much of our time has been on calls back home to South Africa. Also have my cousins little boy who will be 3 soon and has been battling cancer since he was 18 months old. He had another operation last week to remove more tumors and some of his muscles, should hear an update after his follow up appointment tomorrow, please keep the little boy in your prayers. Less important but still taking much of our time is attempting to oversee the repairs to our house in MA that froze in winter and had burst pipes and water damage, so keeping track of that from CA. Glad to say the repairs are just about complete so hopefully we're onto the next stage of renting it out soon.
We have our DD 25th birthday :bday: this coming weekend and our 29th Anniversary in 3 weeks time too which we are going to be celebrating with all our new CA friends when we introduce them to a real South African Braai (Barbecue). Hopefully things will settle down a little after that and I'll be able to concentrate on the DisBoards and our wonderful cruise.

While I'm posting, a quick reminder that I am still looking for volunteers for the stateroom tours. Please PM me with your DisName and Stateroom number if you would like to add your stateroom to the tour. Oh, has anyone had their stateroom category changed on their reservation. It seems that there are 2 new stateroom categories on the Wonder now - Category VGT: Verandah Stateroom with Restrictions (Stateroom with Verandah) and
Category OGT: Outside Stateroom with Restrictions (Oceanview).
:welcome:Welcome to all the new fellow cruisers.

I know I haven't been around for a while, but I'm going through some trying times with my Mom right now, and don't have time for much else. Don't want to get into too much details, as I don't want to bring everyone down, but if you get a chance, can you include her in your prayers. Thanks.
Thinking and praying for your mom and you.
I know I shouldn't post anything else but I really really like this revised design I have been playing with. Bob will say the "volvo" blue is boring but I like it. The trim would only go along the bottom. I increased the size of the flowers and decreased the size of M & M. I have concern the original I posted would be to busy when made into a full shirt.

Love your designs Val.
Can we put a link to this on Page One please....thanks.
It's time ladies.......
CHAMPAGNE GIRLS.....CHAMPAGNE GIRLS.......CHAMPAGNE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Calling all the Champagne Girls.....I'm about to make an announcement:
I will be co-hosting a Champagne Girls Tasting, along with my co-host and co-originator Mandy UK/angel, for women only on the Hawaiian cruise. Every adult woman is invited. You don't have to drink champagne to attend, but it certainly doesn't hurt if you do.
Here's how it works when I do it:
I request a room from DCL. I order a variety of champagne from DCL. I put it on my bill. All the ladies attending are required to wear pink. Pink leis and pink flowers for your hair will be provided for everyone to wear. We will take a group picture that will be very pink. We will "taste," "drink," "guzzle" and consume all the champagne while discussing it and many other things. It's a fun, fun way to spend two hours on a sea day.
We have a mascot, Sassy Bubbles, who is attending and will be dressed as a pink tink. We have ladies who won't drink any champagne, they are honorary members and can attend without any charge. We have ladies who will just have a little champagne and not all of the varieties, they are the sippers and will be charged $5 cash to attend. We have ladies who are drinkers/guzzlers and will drink all the various champagnes offered, they are the tasters and will be charged $10 cash to attend. I collect some money to offset part of the costs to me. In no way does it cover all of my expenses, but I prefer to offer it at a minimal price so that many more ladies will be able to attend. I always say, "the more the merrier."
If you are interested in attending please post on page one of the spreadsheet on this thread....look for the tab, tell me your name, stateroom number and category preference.....honorary member, sipper or taster.....so I can determine how much champagne I need to order.
Here are some pictures of three previous Champagne Girls Tastings that I have done:

Our first tasting was done in 2008, the second in 2009 and the third in 2011 on the first Alaskan. Since then more Champagne Girls Tastings have been done by others that attended, not by me. Personally, I think they stole the name PINK for the Champagne Bar on the DREAM from us. hahaha.
thank you for posting this was going to ask how it all worked - can't wait.
just cancelled 11b for this sailing......go snag it:goodvibes side note it was for room 6019 (sideways cat 11) for those wanting one of those
on a side note...sorry i cant cruise with you guys! my kitchen remodel got a little out of control price wise, now we are booked on a 7night western for march....but i will be following the trip reports and hope everyone has a wonderful trip!!!!!!!
Sorry to hear that you're not cruising with us.
Thanks Val for all your work. Whatever is decided we will go along with it.
Same here Val.

CONGRATULATIONS to you both - thought of you when we heard the news!

I got back two shirt designs. One was pink - which I liked but I don't think would be popular. The other one was nice but very dark. So I think I need to send them more detailed instructions and art work.

Thanks to Erik for giving me great input and ideas. I would like to get feedback in regard to STYLE - not a final design - that I will get from the company making them and then I will post for your votes. So below are a couple of styles of fabric and logos. Give me your input but remember: THESE ARE NOT THE PROPOSED SHIRT DESIGNS TO CHOOSE FROM. I am just trying to get an idea of what is expected or hoped for.

I mocked these up from graphics I got off this site and the web so they are ROUGH and you should not be concerned about the quality of the graphics. I am mostly looking for input as to likes and dislikes regarding traditional vintage style, bright and 60ish, or more Disney with a little Hawaii. Also, remember this is representing a small sample of the fabric, like about a 6 inch square.

I love the idea. Please keep us posted.

I have been busy planning our Alaska cruise and can plainly see I have missed A LOT here. We leave in 23 days and when I get back I will be ready to go full swing here.

I am experiencing buyers remorse. I elected to be frugal and get an inside cabin. I really want a balcony. I am selling all my worldy belongings and my adult son so I can afford one. However, there are NONE to be had. Do you think DCL will get tired of me calling and asking to start a waiting list?
