April 19, 2008 - Western - VERY Early Roll Call - Anyone??!!

I love that fish extender! I have to get working on finding one for us, as I have no talent to make my own.

We're finally getting over the worst colds ever in this house. We drove to my mom's house in NJ last weekend and my son was coughing so violently on the drive that he vomited all over his carseat. Hopefully I can keep up with the thread better now that we're all a bit healthier. I have been reading up at least, but just had no energy to stay up and post after that.

Oh, and I think I mentioned we got sick from a kid who came to Madison's birthday party after getting sent home from school 2 days earlier and being out sick the entire next week? Well she was sick again and in school this week and sent home early from the after school watercolors class she's in with Madison. So I'm just hoping we don't come down with something else. It wouldn't be so bad if she and Madison weren't such good friends, but it's like we always get her germs cause they're in constant contact.

Our contractor is acutally here and working today and my kids are asking me to take them upstairs to look at their new bedroom.

Well, at least, you probably got it all out of your system, and won't be sick for the cruise!!!!!:)

So- new dilemma here in Massachusetts. My younger daughter has been invited to go on a Leadership Training Trip with her Jr. ROTC group - guess what week.... the same week as the cruise!!! (It's school vacation week here). She is torn , but really does want to go on the trip, not the cruise (can you believe that one???). She said she's already been on a lot of cruises, including the Western, and hasn't gone on an ROTC trip. All she asks is that we buy her a new Castaway Cay sweatshirt because hers is too small! :)

At first we told her "No way, you're coming with us" but now we're wondering what to do. My husband doesn't want her on a Marine base doing all kinds of physical activities with us out of the country. He's concerned that she may get hurt and we'd not be able to get to her. Our sons (aged 21 and 24 ) are not going on the cruise and will be home, but one is in college and one is grown and working and doesn't live with us any more. And even so, she'd be in North Carolina with the group, pretty far from home. Any thoughts or suggestions ???
:confused3

This is a tough one! I've always been for allowing kids to follow their dreams. If this is REAL important to her, let her go. Of course with that being said, I also wouldn't feel comfortable being away either. You can always reschedule your cruise, DCL is real flexible. She is 17 though, and with a supervised group. I guess you have to ask yourself, will you be thinking about her so much that you won't be able to enjoy yourself? I don't know if I helped at all, like I said it's a tough decision.

A call out to all designers......I need help. :scratchin I want to make a special B-day dooor magnet for my son Tyler who will be turning 6 on April 16th. He likes Pirates of the Carribean. Any of you creative geniuses have anything?

Thanks :)

:thanks: Thanks to all who offered their thoughts. We're going to talk with the school folks this week and see what comes of it. She is 15, not 17 , a freshman in high school, so we are thinking that maybe this isn't the only opportunity she'll have to participate in this sort of trip. And whatever deceision we reach won't be easy in the end!

Denise , I LOVE your Formal Night magnet! :lovestruc

Just 54 days until April 19th!:hourglass :

How about an official note from Mickey Mouse welcoming young Tyler to the brotherhood? I've got some ideas -- something like a diploma but on special Mickey pirate paper (I think it came from the pirate night menu). Let me know if you're interested and I'll put something together.

Thanks.... like i said, I hope you guys don't mind me showing them off a bit among my friends (you guys) and I hope you'll share some of yours too.

:thanks: Thanks to all who offered their thoughts.

I've been thinking and thinking about this and the only reason I haven't said anything is that I don't know what to say. I think talking to the school is an excellent idea. But you know that if she doesn't get to go and then doesn't get a leadership position next year she's likely to say that was the reason. But then again, maybe not..... you know your kid better than we do. Whatever you do, I'm sure it's not going to be easy. Here's hugs and pixie dust coming your way.... :grouphug: pixiedust: :grouphug: pixiedust:

You may want to check with the shl orthe branch of the armed forces from which she's JROTC and see if there are training camps offered over the summer

Yea, Haddonfield is just North a little bit.

By the way, are any of you guys planning on bringing pins and lanyards? we will probably bring ours. :offtopic:

We have been searching high and low for my daughters lanyard. It has our pins from Disneyland Paris and WDW and Disneyland on it! I will be so upset if it never shows up again. :crazy2: :sad2:
I am planning on bringing it if we find it...if not she may not be getting any more pins (that's the threat anyway:scared: )

I don't know if that's off topic :rotfl2: I had planned on bringing my lanyard and may even run out to ebay and order some tradeables soon. How much pin trading goes on onboard?

Hello all,

I have everything that I'm going to get for Fish Extenders in my Oriental Trading Company shopping cart right now. I'll probably be ordering in the next couple of days. I checked the spreadsheet and found that there are 26 people particpating in the FE, so I will be ordering enough to cover the 26 and a bit more. However,

If you think you'll be participating in the Fish Extender Exchange, please make sure you have let Joan know so the spreadsheet can reflect the correct numbers

Okay, yeah.... so perhaps that size letter was a bit overboard. But I would hate one of the babies (yes, even the teenaged ones) to think that they'll be getting circey's (presents) and then not get them becuase they hadn't signed up and I didn't get enough for them.  I'm sure there are other folks out there that don't want the babies' feelings hurt too. (I can't be the only mommy with hyper feelings towards the kids out here :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ).

Thanks!!

<I now return you to your regular, non-hyperized life>

I never really noticed. My dd trades, but it seemed like on board you tend to forget about doing that. You might as well bring it though because I'm sure there are alot of people that have theirs with them!
Thanks again for the speedy graphics! I love them!!

Hi all!!

I have a question about the yankee swap...

My daughter would like to be a part of the yankee swap but can she give out something to another female teen?? could this be done or does she have to give something out created for either sex?? The day we exchange the swap,
where and when will this be done???

Denise,

RENT was great. Just as I remembered it. Thanks for asking.

My girlfriend that I went into the city with Sunday got some bad news on Monday. She is 36 years old and was told she has breast cancer. It's been a hard week for me, but obviously harder for her. She has 3 young children. The surgeon has scheduled her for a masectomy next week. Please send prayers this way. It is going to be an aweful year for her, but then, God willing, she will be a survivor.
It's all I can think about right now.

Ant

Ant:

I'm SO sorry to hear of this news. I'm sure it's been tough, but be encouraged. There is alot of strides that have been made. If I can help in any way since you know I work for a development office that fundraises for the education and research to prevent and (hopefully) cure breast cancer, please let me know.

Email your friend's first name and I will call the church I used to work for and have my friend put her on their prayer list.

And to everyone else....HELLO!! I'm trying to pop on more, but ya know this crazy thing called life sometimes gets in the way of fun!!!! And this weather.....UGH!!!! DH and I did not even go out on Friday the roads were horrible and we ended up both "working from home"!

In any event, the band that I work for played 2 Friday's ago and a cousin of a sort-of friend who comes to see the band I find out is on the cruise as well! His name is Pete and he doesn't come on the disboards (although I told him he should), but is a TOTAL dis freak (like most of us!). I forgot what number cruise this is for him; I think he has 2 or 3 kids and not sure of ages. He is staying in Rooms 1051 and 1053 and he's another Lawnguylander!!!!!

Hope everyone is well and we are getting closer and closer!!

BTW - Hypermommy - did you happen to see the Oscars last night? Johnny was there and looked yummy as always!;)
