apps and the DDP

On the regular dining plan you do not get an app .. just entree and dessert. It's with the deluxe dining plan that you get an app, entree, and dessert. You can get an app on the regular dining plan - you just have to pay out of pocket for it.

I mean can you get an appitizer INSTEAD of an entree on the basic DDP? Thanks

Depends on the restaurant, server, time of day, phase of the moon, what color boxers Donald is wearing....

In all seriousness, we have had reports where someone was allowed to and reports where they were told no. There is no real way to know for sure until you are there and ask.

It seems like a perfectly reasonable request. It's a really good question, I'm surprised I've never seen it before.

It is a perfectly good question...and it has been asked many times. But the search feature on the Disboards is not the most efficient function, so people have to ask the question again:thumbsup2.

Our experience has been you will have better luck at Disney-owned restaurants...they seem to be able to be more flexible than the non-Disney-owned places.

A waiter at Yak & Yeti explained it like this: the receipt has to list the correct components or the restaurant does not get reimbursed for the meal...so if it listed salad/soda/dessert, they would not get the money from Disney unless there is a salad entree on their official menu. I asked why they couldn't just enter it as an entree. He said the whole menu/ordering system/reimbursement bookkeeping system was all tied in together and everything came from the same single entry when he puts in our order...he can only enter what is actually on the menu, so if he puts in an appetizer salad, the kitchen gets the order for that same salad and the reimbursement system gets the line-item appetizer salad. And rejects it for reimbursement, because it's an appetizer and the regular dining plan doesn't cover salads.

Don't know if that's exactly how it works, but that's the explanation we were given at a non-Disney restaurant that does take the dining plan. It never hurts to ask, though...you never know. It could happen.

It's a hard question to figure out how to search for too. "Appetizer instead of Entree on DDP" maybe? :confused3

Great information either way. Thanks!

We were not allowed to at Chef de France either. We were on the DxDDP and I wanted two appetizers, instead of an apperizer and entree. The waiter said he would check with the manager, but came back and said it wasn't allowed that the system required you to order exactly as the DxDDP read (1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 dessert, and 1 beverage). It wouldn't allow them to put an appetizer in for an entree.
