Does one give gifts at a baptism? What is an appropriate gift -- for twins!!?

Thanks!

My boys got lots of savings bonds. They were very appreciated.

Oh and my son goes to Univ. of New Hampshire. Very far from us in NJ. Go Wildcats!!

While gifts are not necessarily expected, they are a special joy for the parents. I would suggest a really nice children's Bible or book of Bible stories or prayers. Although its not the right time of year now, my most beloved gifts from my son's baptism (10 years ago ) are personalized Christmas ornaments. They are so nice to unwrap and share the stories with him each year. :lovestruc

I don't think i have time to get a savings bond... I have procrastinated...plus I don't want to bug the parents for the SS#. Is a gift card tacky? Like for Babies R Us?

I bet those savings bonds have come in handy for college! That is so cool that your ds is going to college in NH!!

You don't have to have the child's SSN to purchase a bond. Many were purchased for our daughter and I gave her number to no one.

Maybe a nice photo frame? I've seen some pretty ones at Hallmark, Family Christian Bookstore, etc; many times the frames are embossed or printed and say "My Baptism" or something like that.

for our kids baptisms they got bibles, one got a cross for her room (which I really like), a precious moments figurine (not so much), money, out fits, and a children's illustrated bible. For friends that are Catholic, I've given the children rosaries and outfits.

I really liked the storybook bible... and my kids love it. Its board book style. There's also a book called "your'e my little love bug" that my mom gave my daughter and we love it.

When my daughter was baptized she received a childrens bible, a precious moments figurine , a precious moments cross nightlight, savings bonds, picture frames, a rosary, money .

If you wanted to go the savings bond route, usually at the bank they will give you a little certificate type thing that says you've purchsed a bond for the person. Then, a few weeks later, the bond will be mailed to the child's house.

I really appreciated the cross my best friend got my son. It just has a simple prayer about little boys on it and we hung it in his room. It was from Hallmark. I've seen some cute frames and crosses at our local religious store so maybe check there. We bought DS a white embroidered handkerchief that was his bonnet that turns into his future bride's wedding day handkerchief. I found that at a local giftshop at the mall. It sold Precious moments and wedding merchandise (candles, garters, veils) so that type of store might work for quick ideas too.

If they aren't super religious, I don't see anything wrong with a giftcard or money. You can get a savings bond without the SSN. We got a bunch with other SSNs but made out to DS and either myself or DH. The majority of our cards had money or giftcards and we put the money away for DS. I think any gift will be appreciated! :thumbsup2

Check or savings bonds. Usually only the really close family gives religious gifts, like crosses or bibles.

We have given necklaces with a gold cross on them. Child size appropriate and simple too...nothing over the top and tacky!

I have given memory boxes for several baptism gifts. The intent of the box is for keeping cards and other similar sized items in. I have one for every year for DD. I put cards, invites, thank you's, special notes or different odds and ends. It makes it so easy to have those little things organized!

How about a donation to the church in the children's name. At our church you can request how the money is spent, and in our case we chose to have childrens bibles bought for the childrens center. Almost 13 years later, they are still using them.

Thank you for all of the ideas...they are very thoughtful! I especially like the cross to hang in the room and the memory boxes.

We always have a gathering after a baptism. People in my family usually give money, savings bond, children's bible, a precious moments figurien, we have even recieved clothing. I guess u can really give what ever u want. My sis painted my son an angel praying...it was really cute and best of all home made. A few of my friends got my kids cross necklaces. That gift I didnt care for cuz they are babies, they cant wear a necklace. By the time the kids r old enough to wear a necklace it will be too small. Its a nice idea (probably a better idea if they were girls) and it's a nice keep sake but it just seemed like a waste of money to me. Are you crafty? Maybe you can make the child a blanket or something. Good Luck!

I was so bummed, that neither of my kids got a bible for their Baptisim. Target (of all places) has a really nice first Bible with a pink "Leather" cover. It would be good for a girl.

Our DS mostly received savings bonds but also received money, a photo frame, a few gift cards, two children's bibles, a handmade blanket, and a cross necklace (this was from my godmother actually). :goodvibes

I really liked the stuffed bear that my daughter got that says the "Now I lay me down to sleep" prayer when you hold its hands or touch its hands together.
