I am so excited!! We leave for DL next Friday the 19th!!!!
Its our 1st family vacation, and my husbands 1st time to disneyland!!!

I am starting to get stuff rounded up for packing, we are driving from Oregon. Any suggestions to pack for the trip in the car and at disneyland??????

Thanks so much!
HUGs

Where are you driving from? We're in Eugene. :goodvibes
I think having our own music helped us. Husband had his mp3 player, I had my cd player, kid had his psp. We drove at night though so everyone spent time sleeping (except for me--too excited)
It also helped us to check the cheapest gas stations to fill up along the way. Google maps helped with that.

**Oops saw you were from Newport when I looked at your screen name ;-)

we are in Newport!!!!
Yes the kids have there own ipods and DSi's, and of course the DVD player....
DH said no about driving at night, so we are leaving about 5am!!!

Hope you have a nice vacation. We have never taken a vacation either and since its hard to get away with my husbands work schedule we are taking our "first family vacation" to disneyland also, staying for 3 days, even though we only live 45 minutes away LOL a little corny, but it'll be fun.

Oh how fun! I don't envy you that drive though. Our 6 hours is bad enough for me. haha

As for what to pack, well snacks and drinks for the ride obivously. I'd take a jacket too as it seems to be chilly morning and evening. As for things we try very hard not to forget, a nightlight and a surge protector. There are never enough outlets and I hate trying to walk through a strange, luggage and shoe strewn room in the dark. lol (I travel with teenage girls)

yes, night light for sure, thanks for reminding me, just wrote it on my list!!!

We are driving from Corvallis the next day. We plan on leaving about 1 pm Sat and driving to Stockton for the night. Then the next day we only have a 6 hour drive! I bought my girls things that they have never seen before (books, games, dvd, coloring books etc) And I plan on having lots of snacks. And of course the ipods and laptop for DH and I.

We are all excited too!!! Have a good trip.

Fellow Oregonian here! Have a great trip! Just out of curiosity, will you guys be driving down 101 or cutting east to I-5? I've always wanted to take a trip starting at the Oregon coast and drive all the way down, ending in Disneyland :)

We are from Oregon also. Other side of the state though. We will be leaving on the 19th also. Hope you guys have a blast.:cool1:

I am glad you posted this. I have been wondering the same things. We are leaving the 18th but will spend two nights in San Francisco. I have dd who will be 8(on Sunday!) and ds5. We also will be leaving early in the morning and doing Redwoods on the way. I plan on bringing dd's ds, ds's leapster, dh's ipod touch, our dvd player and parent's dvd player, plenty of movies, books, coloring books, crayons, and tons of snacks and drinks. I also went to the dollar store with them earlier this week and we bought them each chalkboards. Dd's is Pooh and ds's is Cars. I found dot to dot books on clearance at Target for 22 cents each and got one for each of them. Have a great trip!

I love it when we drive so we can pack a lot more stuff! I always bring a case of water, it's so much cheaper than buying it there. You can pack all kinds of snacks and breakfast items. I always bring two nightlights, one for bathroom and one extra in case the room is really dark.

I pack all sizes of bags and baggies, including a trash bag or two. The ziplocs come in handy after you open a package of cookies or such and want to keep the leftovers. I also take some into the parks for leftover grapes at meals and such, they make great snacks for later and save you having to buy some other snack. The trash bags are great for dirty clothes.

I always pack a little medicine bag. It's so much cheaper to bring it from home than to buy stuff there. The electrical strip is great too, especially with all the electronics we all drag around.

It's nice to have the car once you're there too. I love going to the Disney Outlet and then stopping by In N Out or Sonic for a cheap meal.

I always pack a pillow and blanket in the backseat, in case anyone gets cold or tired. You can also pack extra shoes easier in a car than in a suitcase :cool1:

Have a great trip!!

When we drove down 2 years ago, we drove down I-5 to Grants Pass and cut across to 101 then down through the Redwoods and continued all the way down to Disneyland. That trip we made other stops to see sights and family. When we drive down next weekend we are hitting I-5 all the way down. And on the way back we are stopping in SF for 4 days so we will go up 101 then cut back across to I-5 and hit that all the way home (Corvallis). It's a beautiful drive no matter where you start/stop the drive! I highly recommend it.

Fellow Oregonian here too!! Glad I saw this thread! I'm planning my first trip down in June, and have a whole list of things to bring in the car for DD8, including everything listed here already lol. So excited!!

wow lots of Oregonians going!!

We are driving I5 down all the way and doing 101 on our way home and doing some sight seeing on 101!!! its our 1st ever road trip so it will be an adventure for sure!!! we are gonna do the red woods on our way home, along with aquarium in cresent city, see the golden gate in SF, and maybe the Jelly Belly factory in fairfield. any other good sights to see?????

our kids don't know, so its hard keeping things quiet, especially when I am trying to pack and what not!

maybe a dumb ?, but where abouts are the redwoods located??

also, is there alot on 101 between DL and San Fran to see???

Crescent City was a great place to see redwoods. They have somewhere along there a side road that takes you down by the river to see some huge trees and trails to walk along. (The road is well marked, but I dont remember off the top of my head what it is called, if you want I will dig up my pamphlet and let you know the name and exact location)

Between DL and SF, we stopped at Pismo Beach (DD5 collected sand dollars and we got to drive our car onto the beach!) Lots of other beaches and historical places to see.
Its a great drive! Enjoy it.
