Hi everyone, have never tried Applebees but was thinking might try it in november, what are your views?

Mediocre chain restaurant food. Now there are some good restaurant chains out there but Applebee's isn''t one of them. That's my .02 cents.

I see that you're from the UK, what are you looking for food-wise?

FYI-Applebee's isn't a Disney restaurant but I'm sure there are some in the Orlando area.

Yeah, there are Applebees, Chilis, Ruby Tuesdays, and TGI Fridays all over the US, I think. If it tells you anything, I live in Taylors SC (I doubt many here have heard of it, which is my point), and I believe we have ALL of these chains within a 5 minute drive of our house.

As for the food, each is pretty indistinguishable from the rest. DH and I have stopped going to any of them for that reason, and because all of the food just has this odd synthetic taste to it.

My husband and I quite enjoy Applebees. They have a GREAT "Perfect Margarita" and the menu items are priced average. It's an 'average' restaurant. Not amazing, just decent food at a decent price. They have a pretty good variety on the menu and some specialty items!!

We're from the UK and have been to Applebees in Sarasota - our kids love it - it is quite standard fare - burgers, steaks etc but seems good value - large portions, nice salads, cheap beer. I'd say give it a try - you'll probably enjoy it.

I have never been to Applebees in Orlando. However, I have been to numerous Applebees in the state in which i live. Honestly, SERVICE - in the one near to where I live is TERRIBLE. The servers take your order and dissappear for at least an hour. Its takes a good 45 minutes just to get an appetizer if your lucky. I only go there if someone else is making the decision on where to eat and then i still have to beg for my food. Never experienced anything quite like it. Applebees is the kind of place you go for lunch on your lunch break or on a friday when you just don't feel like cooking or to maybe hang out and watch the game and have a mixed drink. Its does not have the quality of food that i am willing to wait 2 or more hours on. Its definately not fine dining. The menu selection looks great but the food though edible is not great or anything that you would look foward to eating. I definatley can cook better than the food they serve. If you want a burger, then applebees is decent.

Applebees is one of our favorite places to eat and I always love to order their Fiesta Lime Chicken. I just wish you can have the option of choosing between 1 or 2 pices of Chicken because for their locations across the Toronto area you can do that, however at their locations in the United States it's comes with just one piece of Chicken.

I'd pass on it! We eat out at home ALL the time and that's one place we never frequent. ;)

There are SO many other great places out there in the Orlando area!

Our favorite - off Disney property - is Giordanos! Which I found, thanks to these boards! :rotfl:

:thumbsup2

We are regulars at the Applebee's in our town. It's decent food at a decent price but the fiesta lime chicken is something I haven't found elsewhere and crave often. :goodvibes It's something outside of BBQ chicken, plain chicken etc found at every other place.
The service is so-so there. We get that occasional bad server but that doesn't stop us from going somewhere again and thats obviously going to vary from location to location just as it would with just about every restaurant chain.
But if you're looking for a place with typical fare at decent prices Applebee's is a good choice. :thumbsup2

I'd recommend checking out a local Miller's Ale House:

www.millersalehouse.com

They're a chain, but they're originally from the area. They finally opened a couple in my neck of the woods a few years back. Similar to Applebees, but I really prefer Miller's

I don't think there is anything wrong with Applebees. It is just an typical "bar & grill" sort of chain restaurant with a predictable menu...a dime a dozen for us Americans. Hence the responses...just not something "special" most of us would do on vacation. Maybe its like us Americans coming over there and eating at (what you think of as) a mediocre pub.

If you are coming to Orlando for a good, long holiday like most from the UK, and you have plenty of meals to eat out, give it a shot. The food is going to be as good as many of the regular table service places within Disney World....just half the cost.

Thanks everyone still not sure about this one.
Just looked at Millers House looks vey nice, we are going to give it a go.:)

We generally hit an Applebees when we can't decide what we are in the mood to eat. Their food is acceptable and there is enough variety on their menu to please just about any group. Our experience is that the service is fine and although we have never been "thrilled" with our meal there, we have never been disappointed either.

I think Aggiegirl nailed it. Applebees is fine, not fantastic cuisine, but some decent dishes that are probably equivalent to what many Americans would describe as "a nice lunch".

I also agree with Aggiegirl that many of the chain restaurants are about the same quality as many TS restaurants in WDW (and much cheaper). If going off property is something that makes sense for your family, it's certainly a reasonable choice. Enjoy your trip, and thanks for visitng us.:earsboy:
