Apple Watch walkie-talkie on Cruise

Has anyone used their Apple Watch walkie-talkie while on the cruise? I was wondering how well that worked? I believe the navigator app has a communication system, but just still wondering how to use the watch.

Hopefully with headphones of some type. I cannot imagine trying to relax on a cruise and hearing people squawking back and forth on walkie talkies.

Reminds me a time when I was “relaxing” on Quiet Cove, and those third-parties engineers who were installing wires for the revamp of the Wi-Fi system were listening to their music on their portable boombox while doing their work.

I think the issue is connectivity. If you can make and receive FaceTime calls, then the walkie talkie should also work.

Our Apple Watches/phones worked for sms on the cruise (we didn’t not purchase any internet package so it was DCL Wi-Fi), but we didn’t try walkie--talkie. We could not send photos though, just text.

Texting between iPhones works on DCL WiFi while in airplane mode. There’s also a chat feature in the DCL app. I was able to text people back home using iMessage just can’t send/receive photos while not in Florida

Apple Watch (any version) can connect to the Wi-Fi, if you're willing to dictate to iMessages that would also do the trick as I believe this is done offline in the most recent models.
