With the recent news that Apple Pay (along with Google Wallet) would be available to use at WDW starting on Christmas Eve I was wondering if any of the podcasters or listeners have been using either outside of Disney. Also wondering if anybody is planning on using it at WDW?

For our part, we don't yet have the iPhone 6 so of course we haven't used it. I do plan on getting the new phone really soon and will most likely use it at WDW and other places that accept it.

I'm guessing that those who stay on property will just continue to use their Magic Bands rather than pull out their phone. Since we live very close to WDW we will be regular "Day Guests" most of the time so charging to a MB isn't an option.

I've used Google Wallet a few times now. It seems to work, but some merchants don't really understand it much. I actually ran into an issue at one merchant last week, where I saw the "EasyPay" NFC terminal and went and used it, and the phone accepted the transfer, but the cashier said that the terminal doesn't work, and the register didn't seem to register the transaction. So I had to pay with a card, but Wallet showed a pending transaction. Several days later that transaction cleared, so I had to start investigating. Turns out the Wallet payment DID process, but only after my credit card was swiped. The card I used, which was different than what Wallet was set to use, was never charged.

That's very strange Brian. Fortunately you were only charged once.

From what I read on other sites, some amount of corporate policy changes and employee training appear to be lacking when businesses implement this new technology.

I've used Apple pay on my iPhone six at several locations including McDonald's, whole foods, office depot, and a few other places. It's pretty cool.

Just got our new iPhone 6 yesterday. Haven't yet tried Apple Pay but do have my cards set up and ready for the first opportunity.

I put all my things into Google Wallet and especially find it cool that you can put in gift cards and loyalty cards so that you don't have to keep them all in your actual wallet. Even cooler, when the GPS says you're near a store, it pops up the loyalty card so you don't forget.

Only problem? I live across the street from a Jersey Mike's, so everytime I drive home, I get a wallet alert.

I used Google Wallet once a year or 2 ago at Gap when I got a phone with NFC. It was cute. Haven't used it since, totally pointless to me.

Apple Pay worked less than 50% of the time in the parks. I tried using it for every transaction. Most ended up in a nondescript error on the POS station and me using a credit card.

Interesting Mike. I haven't yet tried ApplePay yet despite having had the new phone for 10 days yet. Was in the parks on Saturday but the only thing I charged was Tutto Gusto and I don't think you can use ApplePay in the restaurants as of yet. They certainly didn't have those hand-held devices in Tutto Gusto.

Have been using Apple Pay in the parks now since the beginning. Works great as long as the cast member is aware of what payment method you are using. Only issues I came across was untrained cast members

Just following up on my own post. Used ApplePay for the first time today. Bought a small item in Epcot and it worked like magic. Liking it!!!

I've now used Apple Pay about 5 times both inside Disney and elsewhere. Today was perhaps my most magical, but it wasn't at Disney - it was at Walgreens. Bought a half-dozen small items, walked to the register and showed the cashier my Walgreens card in Passport so she could scan it, then held the iPhone up to the pay point, got the approval code, said thanks and out the door I went. Took less than a minute for the whole check out process.

A less stellar experience was a BJ's a couple of days ago where despite getting the approval on the pay terminal I still had to "sign" just like a regular card. It might have been a cashier error as she didn't even know if they accepted Apple Pay.

At WDW, you need to let the CM know you are paying with a Credit Card as they need to select that as a method of payment on the POS.

To find locations near you that accept contactless payments, MasterCard has an app called Nearby. Not sure why, but most WDW locations are not listed in this app.
