Apple Experts Out There - I Need HELP!

I a SO frustrated right now. Last night I upgraded iTunes, then upgraded my iPhone to the new iOS5. I saw iTunes back up my iPhone, then I received error messages when trying to do the upgrade. I believe it was some kind of restore error, and when I looked at my phone I did not have music, contacts, videos, etc. I restarted the computer and tried again. This time it said it was successful and I do have music and some of the other things. However, all of my text messages are gone, none of my contacts are there and my calendar has been wiped clean. Also, the way I had my iPhone configured with APPs in certain places, grouped with certain other APPs, etc is completely gone. I tried looking through my computer to find the back up that iTunes did last night so I could just restore my phone and it's not there!!!! In fact, there are NO back ups showing up before it completely messed up my phone!!! What happened? Where on Earth did all those back ups go? If anyone knows some kind of trick to try and find my back up I would greatly appreciate the help.

In the meantime, I brought out my external hard drive and found an old back up that was on there from last January. I was able to restore my phone to that, but that was almost a year ago. I had things in my calendar, photos, settings, etc that are not on that old back up. I am so upset right now. I can't believe one upgrade could completely mess things up like this.

On a side note... does anyone know how to sync the calendar on my iPhone with MobileMe? I've been looking into it, but it seems like it will only sync the calendar from my computer and not the iPhone. My goal is to get what I have in the calendar on my iPhone to the calendar on MobileMe so that if this ever happens again I have my calendar and contacts there. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm a huge apple geek but have been traveling this week and haven't had a chance to update my iPhone and iPad yet. I would suggest going to macrumors.com and look at the ios5 forums. The biggest apple geeks hang there and can always answer all your questions. Chances are your questions have already been answered there. Hope that helps.
