appetiser on ddp

i know whats included on the disney dining plan but i wonder whether on some days it might be too much food for us. i was wondering whether instead of having the entree and dessert to swap the entree for an appetiser and dessert! logically i would think that we would be saving them money by doing this but just don't know whether this has been allowed?

I'm sure most restaurants will allow you to choose an appetizer selection as your entree.

You may be able to choose an appetizer for your entree (ask at the restaurant) but you will not be able to swap your dessert for one.
