APH blackout date question

I plan to purchase an AP to use for a room discount. When I looked on the website, it seemed to indicate that the whole month of July is blacked out. Is this correct or am I misreading it somehow?

The only AP that has black out dates is the Power Pass which is just your basic pass for entrance into the parks. There are not a lot of benefits with it. You should upgrade to the Preferred AP for the park discounts and it's not a lot of money additional. I have a feeling the reason the Power Pass is blacked out for the Studios in July is because of Transformers.

And one of the benefits the OP wants, a room discount, isn't available with the Power Pass anyway. So OP if that's what you're looking at, it's not going to work for you at all. Move up to the Preferred.

We currently have 4 tickets and I will be upgrading mine to a Preferred Annual Pass in June so that I can get the AP hotel discount. The three persons with me are all children, but I am thinking of upgrading their tickets also to an Basic Annual Pass so that they can use them again throughout the year when they travel with me.

We never travel in July nor the major holidays, so is there any reason why a Basic AP would not do for them-- since I can get the discounts with my Preferred AP?

all you need is one adult in the group to have the preferred AP for the benefits.
the kids power passes will be cheaper than tickets since you will be at the parks frequently.

Just remember that's fine for now with the blackout dates but next year could bring different blackout dates. So worst case is upgrade the power passes too. This is just to make you aware that the dates could change.
