What does AP stand for?? Is there a page on these boards to explain everyone's abbreviations? It can be confusing for some of us! Thanks!

AP stands for Annual Pass or Annual Passholder depending on the context. For example, all this talk about AP rates means Annual Passholder rates, or special hotel discount rates that are available to Annual Passholders.

AP stands for Annual Pass. I'm not sure about abbreviations on this site, but I have a VERY complete list (I think! :) ) that you will find here: My Site -- Just click on the "Abbrv" button at the top.

I don't understand what you all mean when you are looking ofr AP rates for hotels. DO the hotel rates fluctuate for AP holders and are released just a couple of minths short of your vacation? How deep are the AP discounts of hotels? Once the rates are out, can you buy the AP then rather than hoping that the rates will be good for the AP resort prices?

Steff,
Hi and welcome! AP rates are usually released every few months for the next few months. You can call and book withthe AP rate if you have an AP or if you will have one when you check in. Usually the rates are about 40%lower than rack for that same time period. Usually there are no AP discounts at the peak holiday times, but there have been exceptions. AP's are less expensive than park hoppers if you plan to be at the parks for eight days or more and they can save you even more money if you plan your next vacation before they expire. Example we went last year over the fourth of July for two weeks. We used them again at Easter for 10 days and will use them again in May for a three day weekend as well as Late June to the day they expire. I was able to get a nice AP rate for the the three day weekend at Coranado Springs in May (with tax just over $80 per night). We purchase the AP's because we own Disney Vacation CLub (DVC) and will do two to three vacations in a twelve month time period and then skip a year and then do the same thing the next year. Be sure to have an Ap or voucher for one when you check in because if you don't they can reverse the rate back up to rack.

However, AP rates are not guaranteed to be offered, so don't base your decision to purchase one just on resort discounts. And, when rates are released, they go fast, so you may not be able to get them.

For instance, a couple of weeks ago, I called about my trip from July 3rd to July 13th at the Caribbean Beach Resort.

I was offered a room at $144.00 per night. Two days ago, I called after the AP rates were released, and I reserved the same room for $74.00 per night.

I purchased my AP last August when I got a deal just as exceptional at Disney's Animal Kingdom lodge. My DH bought a park hopper pass, but we traded it in for an AP for him, too. The rates are so good that we could afford to double the length our stay. So it made sense to have an AP for both of us.

I sure do hope these rates continue! Disney Club memberships (DC) will be discontinued in December because of the new Disney Visa Card from Bank One. Also, discounts through AMEX will no longer be offered.

The Annual Pass certainly is a blessing--hopefully discounts will soon be released for the remainder of the year. I know many people are waiting. Best wishes!
