AP Upgrade confusion

Hi all,
I've searched and read about 20 threads about AP upgrades but am still a little confused.... well, not so much confused - more UNSURE of what I am reading is being calculated in my brain. :headache: Basically, I'm wondering a few things still. We are going in May and have four - 5 day parkhoppers purchased through a package with Disneyland.com . I don't truly need AP's for future visits as it's unlikely we will make it back again this year but would like to take advantage of the dining discounts with a regular AP (no parking/stroller needed). Now for the questions... well the verifying that I'm thinking this through correctly. LOL

1. To receive the discounts associated with having an AP, I only need to upgrade ONE of the parkhoppers, correct? As long as the person who's got the AP is doing the "purchasing"?

2. Any potential loss of Early Entry should be a non-issue for me since I'm staying at a Disney hotel... right?

3. I'm only seeing one blackout day for the time we will be going and it happens to be on a day in which we were going to be skipping the parks and hitting Knott's instead so I should be okay to upgrade on day 1?

Thanks in advance for the help. Please feel free to poke any holes if you see flaws in my "plan." After reading through all of the AP subjects I could find, I think I finally understand but it's been a long week. :surfweb:

It sounds good to me!

It sounds right to my un-schooled ear. :)

But when making the same calculations for our trip, I had to really look at the difference in price, and to be SURE the discount would make up for that difference.

I kept noticing that I could get the 10% AAA discount on dining at some places, and that sort of negated the 10% AP discount for me, since AAA is already paid for, ya know? Now, if you don't have AAA, then you don't have to take that into account.

And if you're getting the more expensive AP, some merchandise is discounted, but, again, be sure the amount will make up for it.

Thanks for the votes of "good-ness." :thumbsup2 We don't have AAA or any type of discounts available to use so this may be the ticket. I thought maybe the Disney Visa would be similar but it really doesn't offer much. Bummer. I am however still debating the upgrade because I'm wondering if we'll change our minds about going to the park on the blackout date (Saturday)... if the fireworks get cancelled on Friday, it'll be the only other opportunity to sneak it in. I might be better safe than sorry and just not even worry about discounts. I'd rather see the fireworks than eat. LOL

Reeeeeeeeeeally trying to plan well for this trip. It's the first time any of us has been to DL. Heck, I've never even been to a real amusement park for that matter! It was a perfect opportunity to go with kids fly free since airfare is generally $800-1000 per person. This is the reason I'm fairly certain we won't be able to go back within a year.

42 more days, though! And i'm really amped! :woohoo:
