AP Upgrade and Free Dining Package

What should I do if we want to get the free dining plan, but plan to purchase AP's when we get there? Should I just get the package with 1 day of tickets or go ahead with getting tickets for all days and just upgrade on the first day?

Also when is the best time to upgrade to an AP? Before the first use of the tickets?

If I were you I'd just upgrade your one day tickets to APs when you check-in to your resort.

It depends. If you want to minimize the money you spend up front then get the 1-day and upgrade before you use it. If you don't want to go through the hassle of upgrading your ticket before you go to a park, get it for 2 days or more and do it at your leisure, as long as you do it before you use all of your days.
