AP/Resort(s) Magic Band Consolidation

Last trip to WDW was just before Magic Bands went mainstream, so we've yet to use them. Next trip is in July, and we're doing a split stay and just got annual passes. We also have trips planned in August (another split stay) and October. According to the MDE app, our family of four has approximately one bajillion Magic Bands that we can customize. I have no doubt that we can end up with one Magic Band each that somehow links all of these trips, resorts and the APs. Does that happen automatically as long as we have linked the relevant reservations, etc., on the app/online in our account...or am I still going to get boxes upon boxes of Magic Bands along the way? I see on the app that I can "deactivate" some Magic Bands. Is that what I need to do, just leaving one for each of us activated (unless or until the kids want a different color for another trip)? If each of these is linked to our account with whatever information is in the account at any given time, I suppose it might make sense to let them send us at least a couple each in case we lose one. Thoughts? Thanks -

The MagicBands are interchangeable. You can use any band linked to your account at any time. Nothing is actually stored on the band itself other than a unique identifier for that band which is tied to your account in the Disney computer system.

Go ahead and have all of the bands sent to you so you have extras in case you lose one or for color coordination purposes.

Deactivating them should not stop them from sending them, so I wouldn't even bother. I think there are 6 colors or so, so each member of your family gets nearly one of each.

I have 4 and any of them work for my AP or resort room that I'm booked in. My last trip I booked the night before (I live an hour away but still stay overnight) at check in CM asked if I had received them, I told him no because it was a last minute trip. He asked if anyone needed one. I told him I had my AP MB but daughter forgot hers. He said mine would automatically be linked and he gave me a plain grey one for DD. It automatically linked her AP and the room.
