AP resort rates - any way to see them without AP?

Our family of 3 is heading down to Disney in 3 weeks, and DH and I have a tentative plan to go back alone for a long weekend in January, and DH has a very loose plan to do the Dark Side 10k in April with his coworker.

Without the April trip, but doing the January trip for sure, the difference between having AP or just tickets is negligible enough that it makes no difference, but if there was a way to see what the resort rates are, it could convince DH to at least upgrade his ticket to an AP. (We probably wouldn't do a bounce back because I think the current offer is free dining, and we don't plan on doing any TS, and mostly snacking our way around Epcot for 2 days.)

You can not see the AP resort rates online unless you already have purchased an AP and it is in your MDE account. You can call Disney reservations and they will tell you the rates. The other option is to ask over on the Disney Resorts/Disney Discount Codes and Rates forum and perhaps somebody will look the rates up for you.

AP room discounts have only been released through December 24.

AP room discounts for January will probably not be released until after your stay is over (you mentioned you are going in 3 weeks). AP discounts for this past January through the first week in April were not released until the 3rd week in October. AP discounts for the remainder of this past April were not released until January.

Just call and ask. Plenty of guest book AP with the intention of getting their AP before checking in at the resort. The CM would be happy to discuss offers.

And, just to clarify...
Guests do not need to purchase an AP before they can book an AP rate room.
Guests don't even need to purchase before they check into an AP rate room.
Guests just need to purchase/activate the AP when they are at WDW during that trip.

No, it varies from resort to resort. AP discount rates are often 5% (and sometimes 10%) better than the general public discount out at any given time, but that's not always a hard/fast rule. Sometimes the discount can be the same. Just varies by season, promotion, etc. Sometimes AP discount availability is terrible, sometimes it's pretty good.
