AP Renewal: 60 Days or 90 Days with Booked Trip

I want to make park reservations for January but our APs don’t expire until November. I can’t remember if there is an exception that allows someone to renew an AP 90 days out from expiration if they have a trip booked after the expiration date. I thought that was an option but I’m not sure. I know someone here will know.

I just had this conversation with disney. I was told to do this you had to purchase a park ticket and make reservations. You could then take the price of the tickets and apply them to your AP renewal. Or you could just wait till the 60 days out and rene. Ours expires the end of October.

They were allowing it but some had issues. But others were given the go ahead.

Keep calling MS. Ask for a supervisor if you need to.

They told me on Sunday no exceptions. I am on the phone again this morning and the MS representative is checking to see if they can make an exception since we are going to be there over New Year’s Eve and may not be able to make a park reservation when our 60 day window opens up.

I lucked out and was able to renew my passes early due to our reservation spanning New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

I was going to try this week, but not sure if I will if the wait is long. I have two trips booked after my pass expires in March…not expecting a yes, but you just never know!

To renew a DVC Gold AP, you need to call MS.

To follow up, I called twice today, two different CMs, and was not lucky to get the exception.

But, honestly, not a huge deal because the new Sorcerer pass is not going to be blocked out during Easter next year which is one trip we are planning.

Also to follow up, just hang up with one CM, no luck for me either.

My resort stay is 17 days across Christmas and New Years Day, so I think I made a strong case. Waiting till 60 days renewal window to open? Park passes may not be available anymore. Buying a ticket to secure park passes? The maximum Disney offers is 10 days while I will be there for 17 days. Still she says nothing she can do...

I originally got the no but was changed to a “let me ask” when she pulled up our reservations. I didn’t even mention NYE as part of our reservations or being worried about park passes. I was going to accept the no and let it go. Maybe try again first thing in the morning tomorrow and see if you get a different answer?

And, it was really more about getting to pay $611 plus tax, vs. $764 plus tax than the pass itself. What will be very interesting is if next week, after the new passes go on sale, if they will go back to allowing early renewals "based on member feedback" but now at the higher price...

This change is so difficult for some many of us. Perhaps if you are not successful, you could buy the 10 day ticket and use that to reserve the days that are likely to be the busiest out of the 17 (i.e., the week between Christmas and New Year's?

I had the same experience with the first two CM's. So I sent a rather crisp email asking why some people were allowed to renew and I was not.... expiration beginning of November, trip booked over Thanksgiving.... since I really needed to make park reservations. Sent it because I was annoyed, but really expected nothing.

Got an email response the next day telling me to call and they would allow me to renew early. I did... they did... and I now have park reservations for my trip! I'm assuming, but can't say for sure, that they placed a note in my file... just a guess... but the CM who processed my renewal didn't even question it.

For those who really want to renew early, an email may do nothing.... but you never know!

After not being able to upgrade to Platinum to cover my Christmas trip, I also think I will be getting a Gold pass and a preferred Universal AP going forward (for less than then new Incredipass).

I do want to mention, though, that having the renewal certificate but not activated, may cause you issues for a Thanksgiving trips since the newest info is that any certificate not actually activated by September 8th, will be the new pass with new blockout dates, but include photopass, when turned in for a real pass.

Since the certificate is for gold, it is letting you book parks, but you may want to be sure you give yourself time when you get there if the reports prove true.
