I have a quick question on AP passes. Does your year go into effect when you buy the AP pass or when you activate the AP pass? Where is the best place to buy an AP pass....online, the disney store, AAA. your resort or the parks? Thanks in advance.

If you buy over the phone or online, you get a voucher. The year starts when you exchange the voucher for the actual pass (not first use if you do not enter a park that day). I don't believe AAA or TDS sells annual passes outside of Florida.

I bought mine at EPCOT last year and it's good from the first day it's activated by entering a park. Plus, you have to get your fingers "scanned" so the pass will work.

No... The clock starts ticking from the time you activate the annual pass.

If you purchase the pass itself from Disney, at disney - It starts then.

If you purchase an annual pass VOUCHER in the mail, it's clock starts ticking when you trade it in for your annual pass at Guest Relations.

It starts when you activate it, even if you do not go through any turnstiles that day.

And you can only buy it from Disney--either onsite, including the Earport store, online or over the phone. I would recommend buying the voucher ahead of time and then getting it activated when you arrive. That way you don't spend as much time at Guest Relations on your first day and you can check into a resort on your AP rate on your voucher.

Actually, you no longer have to go to guest relations.

AP vouchers can be turned in at any ticket booth, so it really doesn't save any time (30 seconds to authorize your CC?) to buy ahead of time anymore. However, it may be advisable if you just want to get it out of the way - though people who loose things easily should just wait until they get there.

N.E.D.

continuing this theme, we are going in August and want to buy our annual pass soon but need to be sure that if we buy the passes in say May that they will not start coutining down until we physically go into the Magic Kingdom on day one in August - and not when the tickets are paid for ... does that make sense?? can anyone confirm?

That is right. If you order APs now, either by phone or over the internet, you will gat a voucher, not an AP. You turn that voucher in for the real APs when you get to WDW. As soon as they give you the card at WDW the clock starts.

I did this last year. I got my voucher in late Oct or early Nov and had the voucher activated when I arrived at WDW on 12/16, it expires at midnight 12/15/2005.

Fantastic! this means i can buy our passes now! All adds to the excitment don't you think!

thanks very much.

I may have missed this but, are you able to purchase annual passes at the Disney Store anymore? I know that they were purchased by another company, so I was just wondreing if this option was still available.

We were not able to buy them at our local Disney Store when we stopped in there in January and others have reported the same thing, so no, I don't think you can get them there any longer.

We were able to purchase ours at the Disney Store right before they raised the prices, but I've also heard they don't sell them anymore. Allearsnet doesn't list them as an option to purchase APs in advance either. The only ways listed are to call 407-WDISNEY, or online at www.disneyworld.com.

The only place ouside of Florida that I know you can get an AP voucher without having to use mail order is the WOD store on 5th ave. I have seen them there and I am contemplaring picking one up for my daughter ( she didnt need tickets for our last few trips since she turned 3 last month).

It starts when you turn in the voucher and get the actual pass even if you do not physically enter a park that day. Some people who arrive late in the day like to get their passes activated that night so that they will not have to wait in line in the morning. The year would start on the day they arrived, not the next day when they go into the park.
