When booking at a Disney resort...do you have to have an AP at the time of booking or can you check the room price, lock in the rate, then purchase the AP if it works out to your advantage? Also, how far in advance would you have to purchase the AP? Thanks in advance.

And then, I've had CMs at the front desk accept just the voucher, understanding that it would be turned in for an AP later that day or the next day. On occassion, the front desk CMs don't even as to see the AP. I would not bank on that however.

If you plan on using your AP the day of check in, then go ahead and get it that day, before checking in. If not, obtain a voucher for an AP (Disney store, AAA, etc.) and show that. The worst that can happen is that you'll get a persnickety CM and have to go and trade the voucher for an AP before checking in.

Remember only one person in the party, and it can be a child, needs the AP in order to get the AP rate.

You have to show your AP pass when you check-in.

I checked into CBR for a 1 night stay on Sunday night (in Orlando for business yesterday & today) with an AP rate. The cm never asked to see the AP and even asked if I needed to purchase tickets or passes! It didn't hit me until I walked away that he should have known I had an AP.
