Hi everyone!

We're coming to the end of our first year as AP holders and had a question...

We'd love to be able to take advantage of the renewal discount rate combined with our DVC discount, BUT we're not going to Disney again until the end of next summer.

Am I able to take advantage of the renewal rate, and then just let my new AP sit unused until next summer's trip? (Therefore making it good from August 2012 to August 2013.) Or do I have to use it right away as part of the whole renewal discount thing?

I got three trips out of my current AP and hope to get at least two trips out of the next one, but we won't start using the next one until August 2012.

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you renew, your renewed AP would be effective on the date your existing AP expires.

Years ago, you could renew your AP and it wouldn't go into effect until you activated it. You would take your voucher to guest services and you would have new pass expiration dates. (I miss those days!)

NOW, when you renew your expiration date is one year from your current expiration date (as PP said).

Sometimes I renew my pass, sometimes I don't, depending on the dates of my next trip.

We miss those days too!!

OP, if you renew you actually keep your original dates. My DH's card expires on July 31, 2011, when I renew (which I've done), his next card expires July 31, 2012, and it doesn't matter when he uses it, but we arrive August 12, so renewing worked for us. If we were not going in August and not arriving until October, we would not be renewing his AP. So you keep your original expiration date plus one year for renewing. This doesn't sound like something you would be doing because if your AP expires August 2011 and you renew, it will expire August 2012, and you would get NO use out of it.....

Thanks for the info everyone! That's exactly what I needed to know. Clearly, renewing won't work for us. Oh well....

The only time I renewed an annual pass under current rules was when they had the 15 month renewal special. Otherwise, I wait until my next trip. For awhile I was going every May & December and only had to buy an AP every 18 months.

For example:

Second week May
First week December
First week May

New Pass:

Second week December
Second week May
First week December
