AP discounts for purchases considered merchandise at resort gift shops

So I read recently you can use your AP discount at the resort gift shops to purchase grocery food. So purchasing a bottle of water or a 6pk of soda would qualify. Has anyone done this recently?

We did it in January, although at the gift shop in Epcot - bought bottled soda there instead of from the carts outside.

Yes, if you buy snacks or drinks in a gift shop (in park or hotel) you can use your discount. I purchase bottled water at the Emporium on my way out of MK every time, and always get my AP discount. The same at Creations Shop and Gateway Gifts at Epcot. I have done it at every gift shop on snacks and breakfast things, but I haven’t seen drinks available in resort gift shops at mods or values for a while (they direct me to the food court, which does not give the discount). I haven’t checked a deluxe for beverages in gift shops recently.

Yes we do it all the time! We usually buy milk, bread, donuts and waffles all with the discount.
It depends on what resort you are at where they put things though. Like at Pop and AoA the milk is in the food court so no discount but most moderates and deluxes it’s in the refrigerated gift shop area so you do get a discount.
At the parks the only time I buy a soda is of it’s from a merchandise location so I can get the discount.
There are some really good snacks at the big top circus tent in magic kingdom and the fudge shop in animal kingdom near the safari ride that you can use your discount on as well.

Deluxe resorts have drinks and more. Some like the screen door at BW have large cookies and cupcakes that you get AP or DVC discount on… pretty much everything except liquor.

I always buy my water bottles there for the discount!

I was at wdw last week. I use the AP,discount to buy bottled water at the resorts and parks. It adds up!

Also for all our purchases in March and last week we showed the AP in our phone, did not use the old plastic card.
