AP Discounts at Resorts

So this April my family and I became AP holders for the first time. We are loving all the AP discounts on rooms at the Disney resorts! Their devious corporate marketing plan worked because we have booked at least two more visits due to the discounts, lol.

Anywho, it has me curious, in years past, were the AP discounts on rooms this extensive and available? i recall a couple times in the past decade we booked rooms on a discount available to anyone, but I don't recall how often they were available. Based on prior years, have the AP discounts been so widespread and available as they seem to be the second half of this year? Thanks

Nope. Discounts have been hard to snag the last couple years. Currently they seem to be a bit easier than years prior to Covid and much easier than Covid times, but rack rate has hiked a helluva lot too. Todays discounts are literally the rack rates of just a couple years ago.

Enjoy the discounts you got. Book first thing when the next set come out, but don’t count on it sticking around. The bean counters at Disney might change their minds and go back to half empty hotels because they only sell rooms at rack rate playbook that they got by with in the Covid era…

Before Covid, it would normally be anywhere between 30% to 40% for Deluxe and this was when the rack was much lower Heck I remember paying $79 at the PO resorts, those were the days. LOL

Good Lord I think the only thing $79 gets you these days at a WDW resort is parking & the resort fee covered at Swolphin!

Yeah, and that is why our trips went from 3-4 a year down to "hopefully" 1 a year.

This means it is impossible to predict what they'll be when you want to travel.
We just left yesterday from a trip with nearly 50% off
Next month we return for a trip with rooms barely 20% off
Both AP stays, both Deluxe rooms.
So go figure, it's a total crap shoot what you'll get
What I can say with almost 100% confidence, the AP discount is greater than any public discount I've ever seen for the same dates for our same trip/room choice.

Hi, I have a question. Our trip is in 9 days, we are booked at POR. All room categories are available with the 25% discount but not with the ap discount. Is it possible that they will become available for ap discount as we get closer to the date.? Thank you

I look several times a day when I haven’t gotten my AP discount. Also one trip I was able to use the change button the day prior and was able to get the discount that late. I have also switched resorts or category at my resort less than 5 days. So keep looking!

Always possible. 5 days is the cut off date for room only cancellations so keep checking

We are booking a surprise trip for my parents for their 50th anniversary. My family will be there also with them. I will have my parents loaded into my MDE to book their trip. When new AP discounts come out, is it possible I can book their room using my AP or will I only be able to use it for my room?

You can book their room with the discount. I booked rooms for DD and DGD

Nice! Thank you. Now just need to wait for the AP discounts for beginning of January to come out. I can't recall last year when they announced them. But when they did, and they fell into Marathon Weekend, I was on it right away!

Thanks! That is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I wish the charts went back farther pre=pandemic, but I will take what I can get!

I've had an AP since 2008 and for almost every resort we've ever booked we've had an AP discount of at least 20%. Most I can ever recall getting was 40% off deluxe in 2012 IIRC. So I consider it fairly reliable discount for sure, but it varies depending on what season you're booking in and what level of resort you're wanting!

Honestly wouldn't help you much since discounts are rarely even close to the past ones now.

Honestly wouldn't help you much since discounts are rarely even close to the past ones now.

But it would give me an idea how different and/or frequent the discounts have been post-pandemic compared to before. Still, the info in this thread has helped me greatly. Thanks
