AP Discount Question

I'm considering purchasing APs for myself and DW, and park hopper passes our children. We are taking a family trip for a week this June and then my DW and I are planning a trip for just the two of us either next January or May (our anniversary is in May).

My question is, how much is the typical room discount if you have an AP? For trip next year we are wanting to stay at the Poly Concierge Lagoon View (Thanks a lot Tikiman, thanks to those pictures on your website this is going to cost me a fortune!)

Anyway, rack rate is $585/ngt YIKES! So depending on the amount of the discount it may or may not make sense to get the APs.

Thanks in advance for any input you may have.

Well, if you are going this June, what rate did you get for that visit? Could you use your AP to get a discounted rate for that trip as well? And how many days overall (this trip + next trip) will you be using park admission? An AP for you and your wife may be cheaper than PH's for the two trips, without even figuring in the room discounts.

The typical AP discount, if offered, is anywhere from 30-45% off rack rates. But, they are not guaranteed, so they may not offer the discounted rates next year. So, I would price out the various admission media for this trip and next, and find out if you get a discount without expecting a room discount on your next trip. Very iffy, at best, ask any AP holder!!:earseek: And, if the AP's are about the same, you could get them, and if the AP rates are offered, voila!! You're all set!

BTW, if you go during Jan. your room rate for Poly LV concierge would be about $524, as it is value season, while May would be regular season. So, you would catch a break on rates without even using a code.:sunny:

No, the trip in June as booked using rented DVC points, so no AP discount there. This trip DW will need admission for 4 days(have 1 day left on last years PH, wish I would have thought of this back then!) And as for next years trip, I would say probably 4 days admission max, which puts us right that magic 8 days that these boards say is the breakeven point for APs.

Which is why I asked about the room discount, because if I did get that (which now seems like a big IF) then it would definately be worthwhile to get the AP.

If it were me, and you're admission media would be pretty close to the same either way(or within a few bucks) I would buy the AP's. Then, if codes are offered, you have that option. And, if your plans change and you need a day or two extra for next trip, you have that, too!!::yes:: You can go to mousesavers.com and click on "Frequently Asked Questions" and scroll down to "Historical Discount on Pricing...." to find the codes from the past several years. That might help you to make your decision!

Good luck, and happy planning!!

We booked using an AAA rate LV Concierge $399 but it is also value season. I purchased an AP for the first time and was told if rates come out we could save about 40% average. I saw someone post that they saved about $700 on their trip to the Polynesian with the AP rate. I can’t wait to see how much we save with the AP on other things. Didn’t someone say there are lounges for AP holders or something?

Anyway we will be there 11 days so the AP was a better way to go than a length of stay with a package like we usually do. Sorry I got you hooked on the LVC at the Polynesian. You could save by just staying for free and sleep at the pool. I heard that is the place for non-guests to hangout.

Aloha

Steve

Tikiman, will they let you use the AP discount if you have already booked with your AAA rate? Or will you have to cancel and make a new ressie?

Heck, even at the AAA rate of $399 that you got I think that would work for me. It looks like I definately need to plan this trip around the value season! I'll just tell DW that it's an early anniversary gift!

BTW, great website Steve, super pics and lots of great info! Thanks to your site DW and I know that we want a concierge LV in the Hawaii building, however, the debate continues over 1st floor patio (DW) or 3rd floor balcony (me).

Anyway, thanks for the info, and maybe someday our paths will cross in the Poly concierge lounge!

Aloha!

If the AP rate comes out Magical Vacations will cancel the one and rebook the trip using the AP.

Glad you enjoyed the site. I hope you ahve a great trip.

Aloha

Wow....I'll have to look into AAA. We're members, but never really looked into the travel packages. I think it's about time we did!

Thanks, Tikiman!
