So this is odd...

I bought a DVC Gold Pass during the 13-month promo and I have not activated it yet. It shows in my MDE account and it is linked to me, but I do not plan to activate it until next year.

I was looking around for the MagicKeeper carabiner for my MB and I found it on the DisneyParks app. When I put it in my bag, it gives me the Annual Passholder 20% discount. I'm not complaining about that, per se, but since I do not currently have an ACTIVE annual pass, I should not be receiving this discount. I plan to uncheck the box for the discount, but if I hadn't noticed this, would this have somehow "activated" my AP? I doubt it, but I find it incredible that you can have an unactivated, unused voucher in your account and still be eligible for the discounts.

The AP has to be activated in person. You have to show ID (if over 18). They scan you MB and will have you do the finger scan to "check that it works". You cannot activate an AP by making a purchase.

A lot of people are able to book a Passholder rate for their room just by having a voucher. I'm not surprised that having a voucher attached to your name in MDE permits the discount to be applied. It wouldn't happen in the park because you have to present your ID and the actual AP card(showing the CM your MDE account with an AP attached is not sufficient).

I haven't had an AP in four or five years (way before mde existed). I was given the 20% AP discount when I ordered items off the app a month ago. Disney IT strikes again.
