AP Code Q - Does existing res. have to be room only or can I change it from a MYW

I had a hard time trying to figure out how to phrase this question. I have been thinking about our upcoming trip. I currently have a room at the poly with tickets and dining for May. Will they let me change the package I have to only room only AP discount? Should I take off the package and try to change my current reservation to room only? Will I be able to add the dining later if I decide that that is what I want or if a code doesn't come out? Is it a big no no to have two reservations one with room only and one with the package?

I have not purchased my AP yet, I had one previously but it has expired.

Thanks, Heather

I've had our package booked for a couple months now - - - when AP rates came out today I faced the same question as you, and had not yet done the math to see whether MYW with dining (which is such a great deal!!) would be more cost effective than buying the AP and doing a la carte. Long story short . . . I was upfront w/ the CM and she looked up my existing package reservation & said it was OK to ALSO book a room only reservation w/ the AP code. I was happily surprised and booked it.

So I now have 2 reservations at YC, and plan to cancel one or the other asap. I did the math tonight (calculating at all of our meals - fun but tedious!) and it should amount to about a $600 savings for us w/ AP (depending how much we eat! ;) ). Hope it's not a taboo - maybe it's up to the CM's discretion.
Good luck!

Hi. Thank you for responding. I am still trying to do the math. I figured it might save us $245 if I do it with the AP, but then I am not sure that it is worth the savings to constantly be looking for codes and ordering an AP, etc.

Are you going to get the DDE plan? When I got my annual pass for our 1st trip to AKL in 2005, it really saved us a lot of money. If you are going for the AP, the DDE will pay for itself in a hurry.

Heather

Yes, I plan to do the DDE too - thanks for mentioning it!

It is more work to do w/ the AP, and we've never been on a package before so part of me wants to try it - - but the other part can't help loving saving the money -- and there's definite savings to be found in resort and even in tix (thru mousesavers undercovertourist link). And if I look realistically at how we normally eat (does any family really need a dessert EACH for lunch and dinner, which I'd feel compelled to get b/c of the plan  ), I think I'll ultimately feel better paying OOP as we go.

Have fun!

I saw that you were going to stay at Yacht on your ticker. Have you ever stayed there before? Your kids will love Stormalong Bay. I think that my kids wouldn't even care if they went to the park, they love just going to play and hang out at the beach club. This time we are spending half of our time at the Poly and then half at Beach Club. Since they don't say they want to go back to WDW they say I want to go back to Beach Club.

Have a great trip. Heather

It's our 1st time to YC. Last (& only other) trip was a split stay between POFQ and AKL. We wanted to stay at another deluxe this time, and Stormalong Bay was a major factor in deciding which one. Can't wait!

Thanks!
