You may recall my son posted a poll a few months ago to convince us to stay at the Poly instead of the YC. Well, we're headed to the Poly in 5 days! I have to call the hotel directly to straighten out my ressie. I thought I might make a room request when I call. We booked garden view. My first choices are Samoa and Tokelau. I wanted to be armed with a third choice and was thinking of Aotearoa. Does anyone have an opinion on that longhouse? How hard is it to get garden view, non-monorail side? Appreciate your feedback. Maggie (and son Jack) PS>>>> I usually don't do room requests and just go with what I get. We're been very fortunate with that approach. My MIL is joining us from Palm Beach and I'm trying to avoid alot of walking for her.

Now I'm wondering about Raratonga pool side!?!?!? Yes, I admit, I am a Disney OVER Planner. But, I really didn't make that many PS's this trip.......Again, appreciate the feedback. Maggie

I know just what you are saying. THREE days to go til we are in Disney and SEVEN til we are staying at the Poly. I originally booked Rapanui because of its location to the TTC then changed my mind and decided it would be better to be central to the whole resort so I made it Roratonga.....and after much hair pulling (yup, I'm almost bald) I called again...thank God the CM's are so patient and understanding...unbelievably so.... I now requested either Fiji marina side or Samoa either side....and whatever I end up with is gonna have to be just fine....there seems to be positive aspects to every building....I can't wait to experience them!
Good luck with your decision and I will probably walk right by you while we are there...so "Hello" in advance!!! :earseek:

I recently stayed in an Aoetera (sp?) garden view and I loved it. I'd request it again. I was on the non-monorail side and was only a few doors down from the elevator. Had a nice view of the Grand Floridian. Even though it was technically a garden view, I saw a lot of Seven Seas Lagoon. It was hot when I was there and I liked the ease of getting over to the GCH to refill my mugs too.

I hear a lot of negative comments about being on the mororail side of this building - I've stayed there too and liked it. I think its neat to what the monorail go by and I've never been bothered by the noice.

Well, Hello to you too, Mar. I know what you mean. I'm happy anywhere. It's my MIL I'm a little concerned about. Thanks and have a wonderful time! Maggie

Have you thought about Fiji? That's where we stayed in Dec. and loved it! We had a view of the marina, space mt, the contemporary and electric water pageant and that was garden view. On the other side of Fiji I think you'd have a view of the beach/luau and the Grand Floridian wedding pavillion area.

You're right FIJI would be nice too. I'll have to add that my list of "2nd" Choices. I just called down to the Poly to make my requests. They were very nice. I got the usual answer. They'll put my request in and we'll just have to wait and see what happens when we check in. The person I spoke with also said they're not that busy right now, but looks like it will get much busier after we get there (the weekend of the 15th). I guess that's why they extended hours that week and added more Spectromagic parades. Look out, Disney! The Northeast is comin' on down.......Maggie :cool1:

My wife and I stayed GV Aotearoa 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. Monorail side is really cool if you are a monorail fan (obviously). The noise from the monorail was almost nonexistant. It was a very short walk to the GCH and Volcano pool. There is also a very secluded feeling to staying on that side. We would definitely stay there again with our 3 and 4 yr old sons-they would love seeing the monorail go by their window! However, we've since been bitten by the Concierge bug and stay in Hawaii now.

Can you see part of the parking lot on the monorail side of Aotearoa? Aotearoa GV is my top choice for my September visit. I selected it based upon the Tikiman site and the Unofficial Guide's designation of Aotearoa having particularly nice GV rooms. A view of the parking lot, however, would spoil the experience for me.

We stayed on the Monorail side last time we stayed at the Poly and I loved it. The noise is non-existant, and I would sit on my balcony and watch the monorail go by.

LukenDC,
No, you cannot see the parking lot at all from that building.
