How did you like your SSR stay?? We have never even seen either place in person & this will be our 1st Deluxe,so we are excited! stay

Any info on SSR would be helpful....maybe it's not too popular so it will be less busy????:rotfl2:

SSR is very nice and a short walk to DD. My suggestion to people for the sake of convenience is to request the Springs where you are close to all activity around check in (main pool, dining, transportation, and a very short walk to DD) From our villa it was about a ten minute walk through the golf course to Cirque and another five minutes to Raglan Road. Busses are like anywhere else but on the downside, busses returning at night to Springs is the last stop.

We requested the Springs when we went and were place in the Paddock section instead. We were right by a quiet pool (which has since been upgraded), very close to the bus stop, and just a nice stroll along a wooden walkway across the lake (and we spotted a small alligator in the lake and numerous turtles) to the main center. We liked where we were placed.

DD and her family ate at the Turf Club Bar and Grill and said it was excellent. I liked the QS selections at Artist's Palette, but this area tended to be busy during prime times.

Make sure you take the boat to DTD. That was a nice, relaxing ride.

If you want to pamper yourself take a trip over to the spa. That was fabulous and well worth it.

We were on the ground floor and the room was very nice. I'm a very light sleeper and they were cutting the grass very early in the morning. It never bothered me so there is good sound proofing on the rooms. One thing that was different was that the main hallway was done in concrete.

The CMs were very nice and helpful.

As for the theming, I am from NYS so I think that I prefer more of a tropical theme or something that isn't too close to what we have at home, which is just personal preference. But this is a beautiful resort and I think that you will enjoy it.

Thanks to you both!!! I have thought of a few more Qs I have for anyone that knows. 1)Do you know if SS has elevators @ all? [We'll have a stroller.]
2) Does anyone know how much a cab would be to get to the grocery store? [I know there is one not far from DTD]

I believe each building has at least one elevator. A cab ride to the store would probably cost $20-25, you could use a service like Garden Grocer or buy limited items right at Artist Palette in the main building at SSR.

Each building at SSR has elevators. A cab to the Winn-Dixie on South Apopka should be less than $10 each way.

If you have a car I would go to a Publix.

Pretty sure each building has an elevator.
Have you considered getting a car service for your transfer? Cost is about $110 round trip plus a tip. With that you get a grocery stop, thirty minutes for snacks, beverages adult/children. They are waiting for you as you come down to retrieve your luggage and off you go with no other stop. We've been doing it for at least ten years and with the savings from grocery stop you come pretty close to what you would spend on sight for same products or renting a cab for such.

SSR has elevators in all buildings. This is one reason we choose to stay there rather than OKW, because they do not have elevators. When traveling with a stroller, and my dad who has difficulty climbing stairs, this is essential for us. We normally stay in a 2BR unit there, and we love it. We are scheduled to go this back this september on the 30% off code, and we can't wait! Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for the help everyone!:thumbsup2 VERY HAPPY to hear about the elevators!! This means a great view if we are higher up!! :goodvibes

Thanks for the info! I'm glad we booked SSR over OKW then! + I love the location for DTD. You have a wonderful trip as well, I can't wait either!!!!

I just booked a DVC rental today and am more excited for our first SSR stay.
I need the elevator as well. A map I saw online showed the resort- and my DH can stroll about and golf if he wants. And I can get a massage.

:goodvibes

first SSR is big!

so go prepare to walk - if you plan to visit DD alot would suggest Congress Park - it is very close to DD.

otherwise would go with Grandstand - it was the first bus stop to go to the theme parks. It is close to the main area and it has its own pool.

here is a map of SSR

this map does not include the treehouses which are also part of SSR.

We love SSR. Its a beautiful resort, we first stayed there in 2005 when it was still being built, and over the years it has really matured into a lovely resort. It has one of the best main pools on property, then two other feature pools as well as the quiet pool in Congress Park (which has some incredible views of DTD). We love Turf Club for a full serve meal and thought the food at Artist Palette was really good with a nice selection. Not as much selection as a food court but far more than most other deluxe cs places.

The boat ride to DTD is fun, but we actually preferred to walk it.

Our favorite sections were the Paddock and Congress Park, but we have stayed in all of them and enjoy them all.

We always had great bussing at SSR.

The cm's will tell you that Goodings is the closest grocery and it is, but the prices are horrible! Definitely go to the Winn Dixie the other poster mentioned.

We stayed in the Paddock section, and actually saw fireworks from our balcony!

SSR is "deluxe villa" so you're not going to get as many of the same amenities that you'll get at the Boardwalk or Beach Club villas since you're not connected to a deluxe hotel. But there are a lot of great things there.

It's a really nice resort and the rooms are very elegant.

So glad to read so many positive comments! :thumbsup2 We're staying at SSR for the first time in June. I've been a little nervous about it due to some negative comments I have seen in other posts.

We stayed in the Springs section and had an amazing time. The resort is gorgeous and I wish I had had more time to explore.

I loved the Springs area because we were near themed pool, two hot tubs and my daughter's favorite the Hospitality House. She loves doing the activites there..

I definitely recommend SSR!!!

I was fortunate back in 2007 to get upgraded from pop to SSR to a 1br villa for the pop price!!! we were in the grand section and it was wonderful! i loved that bldg. cause it was the 1st bus stop. the bus goes all around the complex and it is quite large. we had the full kitchen but on that same trip we had free dining so we didn't use it. our dd loved the shower/tub!! the pool was nice too, we loved the slides!! some of the bldgs, you can easily walk to dtd but ours was too far for that.
Have fun & enjoy it!

We LOVE SSR. I prefer Congress Park for the views of DTD and the quiet pool there is heaven. We've stayed there about 5 times and have always stayed in Congress Park because we love it so much (we always request CP and have gotten it each time). We love the Turf Club for lunch or dinner and the Artist Palate has my all time favorite salad (SS House salad with grilled chicken, craisins, blueberries, apples, nuts- its awesome!). You'll have a great time there.

Thank you for the map! Not in the treehouses so this will work!:)
We were very happy at SSR. The grounds are beautiful and the location was convenient.
