Is there a list that specifies which room numbers for each one of the DVC Resorts are for non-smoking. I was given a room at WLV that smelled of cigar smoke last visit. I did request non-smoking and at check-in I was told it was a non-smoking room.

If all the smoking rooms are full at check-in which rooms do they give smokers. Non-smoking rooms?

Or could it just be members / or point renters are smoking in the non-smoking rooms with no regards for the non-smoking members?

Unfortunately, that sometimes happens.

It happened to us once any OKW. We checked into our non-smoking 1BR room in a non-smoking building. It was obvious that the previous occupants had ignored the room's non-smoking designation.

We called housekeeping. They said they would set up some sort of ozone machine, but we would have to leave the room for several hours (which we planning to do anyway). They also said they would treat the room with something like Fabreze. When we returned that evening, the smoke smell had been reduced but by no means eliminated. It fact, it lingered for our entire stay.

I've since heard that under such circumstances, you should also ask to have the air filter in the heating/AC system replaced. We didn't know that then.

The same thing has happned to us three other times in recent years, once at a Residence Inn (where the last two available non-smoking rooms both smelled strongly of smoke) and at a Summerfiled Suites and a Homewood Suites (both of which were able to accomodate us in different rooms).

I've never experienced this problem in a regular hotel room, only in condos and suites.

In Feb 99 we stayed at ASmovies and to our surprise at 11am when we checked in our room was ready. Well outside our door was a pile of ashes and 3 cigerette butts - upon entering, the room reeked with smoke smell - I called the front desk and told them this room would not do not so much that it was certainly a smoking room - but our dgt has asthma and for what ever reason cig dust 99% of the time brings on an attack. At first they said housekeeping would reclean the room but I insisted they get us a nonsmoking room at their resort or they could find another room in one of the many resorts on property to put us in. By 2pm we had a new room and there was no smoke smell/residue. We are easy going folks but mess with our dgts health and thats a different story.

Smokers, like everyone else, are either considerate or inconsiderate. For the inconsiderate smoker, to put their own selfish habit in front of everyone else to smell up a non-smoking villa is inexcusable.

But to the considerate smoker, I give you my respects. On our last trip to OKW our unit was a couple of hundred yards from my brother's unit. One day we were walking to his place, unbrella in hand, in the rain. At his non-smoking building, we passed a man outside, trying to stay dry, smoking his cigarette. I'm sure it would have been much easier for him to smoke inside the room, or even on the porch, but he went to the far edge of the concrete just out of the rain. Respecting the rules like this shows both integrity and sensitivity to those guests who will be using the villa at the conclusion of your stay.

Years ago, before DVC, we were staying at the Contemporary Tower in a non smoking room. After we had officially checked out, we went back to the room (for some reason that I cannot remember), and saw the housekeeping person sitting on the bed - smoking. When I smell smoke in a non smoking room now, I wonder if it is from the previous tenants - or a housekeeper who hasn't had time for a cigarette break.

This past May, my wife and I checked into a studio at OKW, non-smoking. Well, it was a handicapped room and we could not give the kids a bath in the roll in shower. We needed a regular tub. Long story short, the only other available room was a smoking room. Boy did it stink! I, with asthma was not sure I could stay in there, however, we went to the supermarket, bought a couple of air fresheners, and put them out before heading to the parks. The smell was gone by the time we came back that eveing. I believe they were Re-nuzit air fresheners, but I could be wrong.
