Anything to do in Celebration that's NOT 'theme-park related'??

We will be staying with our friends at their timeshare (Mystic Dunes) in Celebration and we've tentatively made a 'makeshift' itinerary. We have at least one 'off-day' (non-park) and I was wondering what interesting (and preferrably inexpensive) things we could possibly do - we WILL have our vehicles, so transportation is not a problem...of course, there are the obvious activites offered at Mystic Dunes; I was thinking more off-property stuff...

Celebration is a town...there is a downtown area that has shops and places to eat. It has zero to do with any theme parks. Its a nice way to spend a few hours.

Agreed. I had a nice dinner there a couple of nights. Not really anything to "do" there.

....cool. I noticed your 'location' - do you live near there?

...well, not necessarily IN that town - the general vicinity....are there any local wineries to go wine-tasting, or a lake/river to go canoeing - things like that?

FYI - Mystic Dunes is not in Celebration.

Dax is right about the things to do here. The closest winery I know of is near Clermont. Enjoy your visit! :)

It's about an hour to the N/NW. The winery is Lakeridge Winery -- you can Google to find out if it's what you're looking for.

You will need to get pretty far out from Celebration to find areas where there is no connection to theme parks. Although the town itself is not theme park-y, the area it's in is pretty much totally dedicated to the theme park / tourist crowd. Lots of chain restaurants, attractions (Medieval Times, etc), strip malls, hotels.

If you're looking for places to go canoeing or hiking, probably your best bet is up at Wekiva Springs near Longwood. That's about an hour to the N/NE.

There are several museums and theaters in the Loch Haven Park area, which is just past downtown Orlando towards Winter Park. There are botanical gardens in both Orlando and Winter Park, as well as Bok Tower, which is in Lake Wales (almost 2 hours N of Celebration).

If you go South of Celebration, there are places like Fantasy of Flight (an aircraft museum / attraction), which is about a half-hour south. Not a LOT going south until you get to Lakeland or Tampa.

But really ... whether you go N, S, E or W, it'll be a drive to get past the tourism corridor and into anyplace with museums, botanical gardens, hiking areas, wineries, etc.

I live in Celebration and never heard of Mystic Dunes.

It's in Celebration proper, but just barely. On Old Wilson Lake Road, I think ... just off 192. Near the 429. Ten miles from Celebration city center.

Muffy, how long have you lived there?
I must put you on my list of people who I am jealous of. ;) I give Diznygirl a hard time.:goodvibes

It's not in Celebration at all. It just likes using the name.

Howdy Neighbor!

Take a Segway tour through Celebration. They are offered by ZETours and aren't expensive.

That's a great idea. We see them around here all the time.

BTW - no Farmer's Market August 1st or 8th.

That's why I said "just barely." Mystic Dunes has a lot of real estate, and a small, small portion of the mostly undeveloped outer ridges just barely overlap.

So no ... it's not really in Celebration at all. But if someone were to press the question legally, yes ... a small part of the property is in Celebration.
