Well, it's evidently not bad enough that my dad has to fly to Miami to have a cochlear implant done, and that their condo in Pompano Beach looks like a warzone with no glass in any of the windows and no water/electricity, and Dad has to fly down there in order to make his Nov 3 appt with the surgeon. But now I find out my step-mom, who I am incredibly close to, is having an MRI today to see just how much calcium she 'doesn't have' in her spine. She has had severe back pain and 'high protein counts' (whatever that means) for years, but just found out that she has little to no calcium in her bones and they think it is due to cancer but are not 100% sure.
My mom had something called myelofibrosis which also affected the bone marrow and her blood. Now this with my step mom. Does anyone know anything about this? Evidently my step-mom has known about this possibility for awhile but hasn't wanted to 'burdern' the kids with it but finally broke down in tears yesterday as we talked about the situation in Pompano Beach. So now her dd and I know about it but we're the only ones (well, of course my dad knows about it.) Any info out there, any experiences? Thanks so much.
