Hello Everybody!! I'll be taking my very first trip to Disney World in December of this year (2010) :woohoo:. I've been watching videos on You Tube of RideMakerz in Downtown Disney and I really want to go and check it out but I just have some questions about it.

1st - Looks like you go through a line. Are you rushed through this line? Are you able to take your time and make your choices carefully to make the most of your vehicle?

2nd - Is this a place that gets packed and stays packed a lot? Is there a good time versus a bad time to go?

3rd - If in case it is packed, what's the best way to go about it? Is it hard getting help with doing things? I'm not a car person but this place looks cool and I'd like to go check it out and make something but know I'd probably need some assistance. Would I get the help I needed?

I'll take as much information that any of you may have to offer, the more the merrier! Please leave all your knowledge with me! Thanks a lot everyone! I'm so excited and totally can't wait for December to arrive! :dance3:

From what I could tell, (I didn't make a car) if you want to you will get plenty of help. They seemed very one on one, they took time with people who needed it. There were stations were you pick things out, assemble, etc. It wasn't too crowded. I tried to go online and learn more, but never finished looking

I haven't been to the one in DTD but did go to the one on Long Island last week. Its one of only 2 places (the other in CA) where you can make a Mater, Sally or Lightning. I had one on one attention and it was a lot of fun to do!

We stopped by there last week. The place is huge and salespeople I spoke with were very knowledgable. Being a dad of two teenage girls even they were very impressed with this place. Cheapest car is about $50 on up. Very cool for all ages. Have fun!

300 something views and 3 comments...is this place really that boring that not many people have anything to say about it? I thought I'd get tones of different responses! :( :confused3

I think it's a relatively new store/experience. Not sure too many people would have had a chance to build and report yet. We walked through the one in Myrtle Beach and it was not too crowded, but it was earlier in the day. Like a pp said, there was a lot of help available to guide you through the process and no one rushed at all. In fact, the workers encouraged hanging around and having a lot of fun with the demos, etc.

I'm thinking that if you go to DTD when it is not so crowded (Fri, Sat, Sun and in the evening are more crowded) and especially in December, you should not have a problem with crowds.

When we talked to the workers in Myrtle Beach, they said the models start at $25, so that's a little different than NJ2Boardwalk is saying.

They have a website~ it tells you more about the options and process.

It definately looks like a cool thing to do!

I am going to jump in here and say that you may not have gotten many responses because it is so new.

Our experience with Ridemakers was in Disneyland... but I am sure it is similiar. On Father's Day weekend they had a buy one get one free deal going on. My son decided he wanted to build a green viper with black stripe and a red mustang with flames. The process starts out with picking the shell (remember I am a mom and the terms are going to be off a little :lmao:)
Next you go to station one and you can pick out your wheels. Depending on the car you pick, you either pick wheels that have a blue sticker or a red sticker. They have two bins that are just plain old black tires, if you pick these they come with for free, if you choose tricked out tires they can run you about 8.00 dollars for four. ( My son picked tires that had green flames in the tread.) From there you walk to the next station and you pick out hub caps, again you can go stock here or you can spend a fortune. They have custom designed ones, my son picked some with skulls on them and this ran us another 10.00 for set of four. Then we picked out a spoiler ( again extra) about 8.00. Then on to the hotrod blower, that was about another 8.00-10.00. Then my son decides he wants to put light up running bars in green (10.00) and then I say -- we need to build these things before I have spent 200.00 dollars on two cars.
You then take your little round collapsable bag to the building station. My son then decides to make one of them remote control (25.00) and the one that is suppose to be free we are informed it is only the complete stock version- it was not the usual buy one get one of equal value I am used to... so that meant I got stuck paying for the extras for this one too. My son was then given the chasis for both cars. Since he had two, he and his Uncle raced to see who could build the car the fastest. The worker that was helping them hit a button and they both were timed. Then he wrote it on a card.... of course my son won.
Then you take you collapsable black bag and every empty package of all the pieces you have selected to the registers... this is were the heart attack happens:lmao: DRUMROLL here ...... 125.00... for two cars.. one remote contol and one not. At this point they will try and sell you batteries, rechargeable and not. And I said no thanks... paid and ran

My son loved every minute of this. And because my daughter has done the Boutique to the tune of 80.00 every time we go to either Disneyland or Disney World I was happy there was something besides legos for my son on this trip.

I hope you have a blast.. you may want to bring a calculator because all the extras can add up quick on you. Also if you follow ridemakers on facebook you can find out about sales, coupons and special events.

with b1g1, $125.00

Holy cow! I think it's much cheaper on their website, but I haven't built one on their site in 6 months, I was thinking of waiting to goto DTD, but maybe I won't.

Yeah it ended up being misleading because all that was really free was the stock body, and every stock part. So even though my son tricked out both to the hilt, they made me pay for all the upgrades for the second car. I think the body of the Viper was like 30.00 and then add 25.00 for remote control and then I get stuck with every upgrade for both cars on top of that. I was not pleased to find out that I wasn't getting one for one on the deal. But oh well, my son loves the cars and I don't think the experience would have been nearly the same if he would have ordered it online.

But I will say this was a one time only in my mind..... we'll wait and see what DS has in mind :lmao:

I haven't been yet, but I wanted to let you know there's a $10 OFF a purchase of $30 or more coupon floating around.

I came across it a couple of months ago on the Budget Board I believe. I think the link took me to Facebook.

My coupon says it expires December 31, 2010 and I am able to use it IN-SHOP or ONLINE.

I just went to the on-line shop that you linked here and had my son help me re-build his green viper to exact specifications..... it was 87.50 before tax and shipping... every price looked to be exactly what we paid in-store.

Wow, those prices are kind of shocking! My sons have been saving up their allowance for months and months to buy their cars at Ridemakerz, and now I'm worried that my youngest won't be able to afford one-- he only gets $3 a week allowance and he's only got about $40 saved up. That kind of stinks.

We walked through the store when we were there. My jaw dropped when the saleman told us the prices. I very clearly said "WHOA!" :scared1: The guy just smiled and kinda laughed.

With all that said though, we do plan on getting our boys one. The place is awesome, I even saw a firetruck that my youngest could customize! :thumbsup2

Every kid in that store had a huge smile on their face, we had to drag my oldest son out of the place.

Like you I was really worried about lines and crowds. We were there during the first week of August and the crowds at the parks were high, so I was really worried about the store.

We got there when it opened at 10:00am and we had the place to ourselves. A sales person came up and asked us if this was our first time, and we said yes... he brought us to the first stop and explained what to do. Every 'station' had a different sales person to help you. There is no Line per se... you just hop from one grouping of products to the next.

BOTH my boy loved it... and yes they are very expensive... my son had 80 bucks saved up.... and that was enough for his car... he got a remote controlled car... my other son spent almost 50 and he got a very basic car....

If you don't want to pay their prices for batteries, then buy your own and bring them when you go... 1 9 volt (square shaped) and 4 AAs for the remote controlled cars... just 4 AAs if you want your car to have sound.

Something I was told, and didn't know until we were at the counter checking out... Remote control cars are not allowed to be driven anywhere on Disney property... My boys were heart broken.... it didn't even occur to me that they couldn't drive .... it makes sense... but boy did I feel horrible for taking them to the store, buying battteries and all this other junk only to have to say... okay - well keep them in the box for the next 5 days while we're at WDW....

But that was the only glitch that occured. I am sure that this store gets busy as the day wears on... but I think even if you go later in the day, there are so many sales people to help that you will be fine..

If I didn't answer all of your questions... ask away.... !

This sounds like something my DS would love, too! His sisters are going to get to do pick a pearl so why can't he do build a car? How big are the cars, different sizes? Also re: no running the remote controls: are they too big to get them going in your resort room?

The cars are a good size. They are not huge, they are not small. Probably wouldn't be much fun playing with them in the hotel room, but the hallways are a different story!

youre so welcome. I know Im going to be using one, so I figure everybody else would too.;)

The cars are the standard size of a RC vehical, and they are LOUD! They have sound effects and music and all sorts of fancy gagets on them... Since we were told of the no driving on disney property rule, we didn't allow them to use them outside the room...
