Hi I have just finished reading a 2012 thread about the art of animation rooms being warm and stuffy at night and that the air conditioning cannot go lower than 68 degrees. Can anyone who has stayed recently tell me if the rooms were stuffy and warm at night. I have a daughter with severe migraines and a warm stuffy room is a headache trigger.

Deb.

No, you can't. Don't stay at AoA. I have the same migraine trigger and AoA gets very stuffy and the A/C isn't super efficient. Our room in a Cars suite in August was stuffy and not as cool as I need at night.

I can only stay at resorts with a ceiling fan. I need the air circulation along with the AC.

I'm pretty sure none of the newer thermostats go lower than 68 but with a fan, it is good enough for me.

Must be a resort wide thing. We just returned from staying in a newly renovated room at the Yacht Club. The new thermostat there wouldn't go below 68 either. It was fine tho, seemed cool enough to us. But I can imagine it is worse at the resorts where the doors open to the outside & not to an air conditioned hallway.

Surprisingly it seems that with renovations the resorts are now removing the ceiling fans. I do not know why.
But with the recent BC/BCV renovations all ceiling fans were removed
I hate it

Does it have to be a ceiling fan, or can you bring your own fan to make it work? We always pack along fans.

We actually found that the rooms we stayed in with balconies actually let more heat in then the rooms that had outside doors.

Fans are gone in the new rooms at YC too. I used to use them years ago. But in recent years I noticed they were pretty filthy & dusty, so I never turned them on. Didn't need all that dust flying around the room. :crazy2:

Well, I use a tower fan at home, because we don't have a ceiling fan. I have never traveled with a fan (we fly from CA), and if a room doesn't have one, I just turn the "fan" on the thermostat to ON rather than AUTO, but that doesn't always work so well. I am bummed about the ceiling fan removal, but I understand it. Those things are such a chore to keep clean!

AoA was problematic because the main cooling unit is in the living area and the bedroom only has a TINY vent, and I just never felt cool enough. Luckily, it was only one night.

Interesting. We haven't been in any of the rooms with outside doors in several years so don't have anything to compare to. We do keep the sheers drawn usually (helps keep the sun out) & don't go in & out of the balcony very often.

When we stayed at Pop a few years ago we struggled with keeping the room cool enough and the maintenance guy came through to check the room. He took a washcloth and got it super hot and then wrung it out and laid it across the top of the thermostat, he said that was where it registered the temperature and you could fool the system into continuing to cool. We did that for the remainder of our trip w/pretty decent results.

I can't believe this. Disney rooms are expensive, a disney vacation is expensive enough without having to suffer with a warm stuffy room in a tropical climate. We were looking at a two family trip at AOA family suites. We will have to rethink this whole trip. I would go to myrtle beach and forget about disney (even though I love it there) but it will be my granddaughters first time at disney. I sure hope people are letting management know about these problems.

We just bring a fan in our luggage, or request one from.housekeeping. we like our rooms to be ice cold!

I didn't know you could request a fan, that's a great tip! Do you know if they have them available at all resorts. We like to sleep with a fan on, not just for the coolness, but also for the noise.

I assume they have them at all - I know we have requested, and received, at CSR, Pop, AKL, and POR. However, I don't know quantities they have on hand, etc. The one we pack in our luggage is about 10 x 10 and about 3 inches wide or so. It works very well, and smushes into the suitcase with all the clothes, too :)

Worst case, I think there is a Walmart or Target nearby, and an Uber ride there, $15 on the fan, and an Uber ride back might be cheaper than checking the bag on the plane :)

I'm pretty sure they know. It seems it was done very much on purpose, whether to be green, or to keep people from running the temp at 60 degrees when they are out at the park all day.

I would say $$$$ is the biggest factor here. Will save the mouse some money on the power bill.

Probably the same with the clocks, ceiling fans, etc.

Yup.

Ceiling fans, yes. The clocks were actually removed due to a guest survey given to guests checking out. A high percentage of guests replied that they did not use the clocks as they used their phones for the time and alarm. And there were many complaints from guests that they were woken up in the middle of the night or way too early by an alarm set by the previous guests. So they thought they were doing what most guests wanted. Well they did hear more complaints than expected that they were removed so they decided they would bring a guest one if requested and then they would not go back and remove it. So that's why now there are some rooms that have them and some still don't.
