Anyone watch Dateline last Friday night?

I can't get the story about David Goldman and his son Sean off my mind. It's a horrible event where his wife and in-laws abducted his 4yo son to Brazil. Four years have past and he hasn't even been able to see his son since dropping his wife and son off at the airport. When she landed in Brazil, she phoned her husband and said she was keeping the son and wanted a divorce. And the Brazilian courts backed her up by granting her a divorce, giving Sean a new birth certificate, and her full custody. This father was/is a loving, caring, doting father. I've never seen anyone so broken with anguish -- every attemt to even visit with his son was denied. The wife goes on the marry this hot shot family lawyer in Brazil, and gets pregnant. As fate would have it, during childbirth -- she dies! And now this lawyer dude refuses to let the son be returned to his father, and is persuading the Brazilian courts to grant him full custody. The US State department has been unsucessful in getting them reunited.

I watched it Friday night. I was so saddened and disgusted that this could happen and go on for 4 years! How is that even possible?

The mom is dead now, you'd think it's finally over but no. The step dad refuses to give him back.

It's horrible. I hope with this new publicity of the Dateline show, it will be resolved soon.

I'm disgusted with the Brazil government and judicial system.

When he was sitting in the car outside the house waiting to finally see his son, I knew he wasn't there.
What is with the step-dad lawyer, they really never said why he is keeping the boy. I'm betting it has to do with the grandparents.

I know. I got up to do something in the kitchen towards the end, and I said to DP, "I have to go back out and see if he gets his son back." I was so upset when I saw at the end that he still doesn't have his son here with him.
What a horribly sad story. That man is obviously a wonderful father, and I know he will fight to the death to get his son back. It will happen. Hopefully very soon. I cannot imagine missing so much of your child's life.

Someone posted that at least one of these creeps(I think the mother's second husband?) is a member of the American Bar Association. If so...throw the bums OUT.

I have to get to a doctor's appointment, otherwise I'd research this a bit more(like the 2nd husband's name, etc.). I wonder how hard it is to get a lawyer thrown out of the ABA...

How sad. I signed the petition. Not that that will do anything.
Brazil is tough. My neighbor(brazilian) has been trying to have her mother come visit for 8 years. The government won't allow her to visit. They fear she will stay. She is jumping through hoops. Has a business. Ect. So has no intention of staying she just wants to see her grandchildren. Meanwhile she could probably hop on in illegally- but she's trying to do the right thing. What's going on in Brazil?

I saw part of the show on Friday and it was so sad. I can't believe that this has been going on for over 4 years and still he has not gotten his son back. Our government needs to step up and get something done. The Brazillian government needs to honor the stuff that THEY signed and return the child to his father, not his kidnapper.

Yeah! He's in Brazil now and got to see his son yesterday and again today and there's a court date set!!!

I pray that a permanent reunion is close at hand.

This is big news where I am...he lives in my county. I hope this happens. Unfortunately it is up to the gov't there..and as of now they keep siding with the step-fathers very wealthy influential family. It is really sad that this gov't and this family have done this to this child and his father!

I was very happy to read that he saw his son yesterday. Thanks to Congressman Chris Smith for pushing this and helping this man!! Chris Smith doesn't even represent David's town., The congressman that does, Rush Holt (who also represents my town), did nothing. Guess who isn't getting my vote in the next election.
