I like the show, but do they seriously think they can get us to believe they make those displays in 2 hours??

I love CupCake Wars. I am not even a big Food Network fan - I used to watch (what the heck was it called, with Alton Brown?? ) but thats it.... but love CupCake Wars!!

But yeah - I think those displays could be made in 2 hours. :confused3

I always think about that when I watch the show. Could the structure be built, sure. But I don't believe for a moment that the paint would be dried and that those building it could go entirely off of those simple sketches. There'd be questions that would need to be answered and occasional problems that develop (too top heavy or whatever). They must discuss their desires before hand and then possibly have a time delay.

Yeah, that was my thought as well when I saw that show. Some are very elaborate and some require specialized tools an products. No way they are just sitting around.

The French judge is so hard to understand. Something like keyyupcueake spoken VERY fast. I have come to realize I have a very hard time understanding most French people trying to speak English. Not that there's anything wrong with that.:smokin:

I say this to my kids every time we watch it. Paint would never be dry.. besides the fact I don't think even the most skilled carpenter could design, gather the materials, cut, build, and paint that quickly. Often there is some type of lights or motor as well. Also they always seem to have the "perfect" prop.. cowboy boots, remote control cars, monster truck tires, whatever.. just lying around?

Our local shop won a few months ago and has had lines out the door ever since.

I agree about the paint not being dry. If it wasn't for that, I could see them being done. My husband could make something like that in a couple of hours.

I could also see them having some generic motors and building materials available. They probably DO have the perfect props since the production company knows the theme of the competition and can get things like that ahead of time.

If it is a party for a country star...Boots, barn doors, etc...
Golf party...Tees, artificial turf, etc...

It's not just the displays, do you really think that you can bake, cool and decorate 300 cupcakes in 2 hours? Really? If they didn't let them cool, the icing would be sliding down the side of the cupcakes. There's at least an hour's worth of cooling time in there, unless they're sticking them in an industrial sized fridge or freezer.

So glad other people think the same way I do. I just don't think there is anyway they can so the designing, planning, baking, decorating, and filling the displays in 2 hours

A bakery in OKC won an episode, and we couldn't wait to try the cupcakes. We were not impressed at all. They were a grainy, muffin like texture. I think it's because they were all gluten free cakes.

The show is nice entertainment, that's it. There's not much believable. You can't start with a rough sketch by a non-artist with no math calculations and get it done in 2 hours by "a" carpenter. The finished designs we see have custom trim, special paint and decoration that you could spend weeks searching for, ordering, and executing (by a team of artists/carpenters).

I agree that the cupcakes can't be cooked and decorated in that short of a time. Especially the 1000 or so cupcakes in the finale.

I hate fake shows like this. I add to that my disgust for mystery diner shows where there are tiny cameras put up in the eaves, but the incriminating scenes have TV quality HD video and audio. Yeah, right. Not to mention, the TV show films two average days at a business. In reality, one wouldn't catch thieves and bad employees that quick and in such obvious ways.

Not sure on the the displays, but as far as baking and decorating that many cupcakes in two hours, yes it is possible if the person is skilled enough. I owned a cupcake shop for a long time, I baked, cooled and decorated a total of 1200 cupcakes with just me and no help in right at 5 hours, this was with two standard oven that I could bake 48 at a time in each oven. On the show they have access to commercial ovens that bake roughly 240 at a time and there are at least six ovens in the kitchen that I gave counted. Also access to multiple mixers and have a total of six sets of hand to help in the kitchen. So yes it is absolutely possible to do. Of course when I point out they are bunch of babies and need to quit whining and it's not that hard my husband makes sure to remind me everyone is not an over caffeinated machine like me. ;)
