Anyone want a cooler and any leftover water we have at ASM?

Ah, but see - you are saying two different things here.
It's your personal decision (choice, option, whatever) to say thanks but no thanks on your own behalf.... but when you then go on to say you think [the offer] sounds kind of tacky, you appear to be judging or criticizing those who WOULD accept the generosity of another DISer (or complete stranger). And we know that's not your intention, but it is how your statement appears.

Whats wrong with saying two different things?
Actaully It is not only her personal decision to say thanks but no thanks BUT its also her personal decision to call out some Tacky behaivor:hug:

I don't whether or not she thinks its tacky actually changed the tackiness or non-tackiness of the situation.
She's free to think how she wants.
:thumbsup2

I'm usually very cautious as well but if someone had a half case of water they didn't need I can't see the harm. I'm getting 2 delivered just in case and we will only put a few each day on ice/fridge and will have "still cased" beverages. Now if I have a half bottle of vodka, I can see someone hesititating.

OMGG!!! I love vodka. Now this might sound funny but its the honest to goodness truth.

I would take the vodka.

Its alcohol; it would kill any germs anyway. That is why they call alcohol 'spirits' its because they cant be hurt.

One of my favorite drinks is Grey Goosed. You put some some lime and maybe something else and MMMM-MMMM good! Sip a little on a hot day and all your stress flies away

Drink the right thing!!:thumbsup2

If you are worried about the unopened bottles being touched, just wipe down the outside of the bottles with a Clorox wipe or similar antibacterial wipe before you open and drink. I mean, not everyone can stay concierge level and some people actually need to save money.

However, I do stay concierge, and I don't want anybody's leftover water or snacks.

Listen I work in the miedical field and I have to caution; DO not drink clorox wipes. Not only would it taste disgusting it can hurt.

Getting back to your 'comments' DO YOU NOT SEE THE http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/irony IRONY???

I had no idea my post would get so much attention! I thought all of us DISer people were here to help each other. Just making a small gesture to someone who may want a few free things. I am only sending anything that is sealed, along with the cooler. Sealed packs of chips, breakfast bars, etc. And water that is still sealed. Probably not touched as much as in the grocery store. Ever grab a bag of chips and change your mind or read the label and put it back on the shelf?
Everyone, please settle down and have a great day! A great week, month, year, etc. There is to much to enjoy on this sight.
Besides, I found someone who wants to take me up on my offer, so things are just wonderful. Next time I will just ask someone staying near me though. Thanks for all your comments, TinkerCarol

Tinkercarol, I am truly sorry you have been through so much to not be wasteful! :teacher: Like you, in the attempt to save money and have what I need on a trip, I end up with extra/too much uneaten stuff left at the end of my stay!

Staying at the values, I'm sure there are like minded individuals, and next time maybe you can just menton your abundance poolside, or even trade a few (obviously) sealed items, as it is easy to get tired of strawberry poptarts, and the like.

Anyway, I'm glad you found someone who understood your intentions!:thumbsup2

seriously the best drink in creation (& i've had many:drinking1 lol). btw, the grey goose slushie in france is a good alternate in WDW (if you don't just happen to have roses lime juice available).

geez, i just realized i posted on 2 seperate threads in the past 30 minutes, & both involved alcohol :confused3

OP Please, next time ask us. There are plenty of people who appreciate your gesture and if those were my dates I would have taken you up on it. How insulting some of these comments are!!!!!!!!! You didn't deserve this for trying to be kind.

I really didn't mean to offend anyone for my personal opinion.

But really here is another way to look at swaps such as this one...

There are creepy crazy people on the DIS. I know thats hard to believe but they are out there in full force.

I personally know of a friend on here that had a mean and creepy stalker follow her on her vacation.

This is a public message board with over a million members. You are going to get your share of fruitcakes.

Now to either advertise free stuff can be scary.

The OP can either be a seriel killer using the water as bait (not that I think you are one OP... but I dont know you from Adam and it could be the case...)
Or a crazy stalker could latch on to her and meet up with her.

I know there will be a 100 post about how this would NEVER happen on the DIS community but it does happen. This place it too big for there not to be creepy people.

Making meet ups with people you know nothing about just to swap items is REALLY scary. It doesn't mean you will be murdered in your sleep but you could very well have a stalker latch on to you and make your life difficult.

Handing a case of water to the family staying next door to you is one thing. "Hey I have some extra cases of UNOPENED water. Would you like it?" Or even to a family you see checking in. It is very different to actually set up a meeting to exchange said water.

Just my 2 cents and something for you guys to think about....

I would have taken the water if offered. It is easy enough to tell if the seal is broken on bottled water, and the outside can always be washed with soap/water before opening if you are worried about it. The snacks I would have had to think about, though. A big part of it would be if it was someone sleezey looing person :rotfl2: offering or a nice family at WDW. I would be much more trusting of a mom and kids. BUT... I would still inspect the packages of snacks individually before giving them to my kids, much like I do with Halloween candy, candy thrown out at parades, etc. If there was any question, I would throw it out.

That being said, we always give away stuff we can't use. It is always the right of the parent to refuse, although I don't think that has happened yet. I am always careful to ask the parent quietly as opposed to asking the kid, or in front of the kid.

I do see your point... but people arrange meets everyday. There are fridge swaps, coffee maker swaps, DISmeets, etc. I think it is important to be careful to arrange the swap/meet in a public place. Meet in the main building as opposed to giving out your room number.

We are getting ready to go on our first Disney cruise. We have arranged a DISmeet, a fish extender gift swap, etc. I think it is OK to have fun and do things like this, and still be careful of what is going on around you.

Not flaming your opinion... just stating mine. :flower3:

I am going to guess that you gabbed with the family you are planning to meet on your DISmeet... I am sure you emailed eachother and have become "friends" of sorts.
There are many great people you can meet on the internet and then have them become friends in real life.
This is very different than advertising for any tom dick or harry to meet up and take leftovers.

I have met people from the internet but have gabbed with them for a number of months before doing so. But to meet up with a perfect stranger at your resort to make a swap can get very dangerous. I really honestly know a great gal that ended up with a stalker from the DIS and she wasn't even doing a swap!
I am not trying to scare people but a word of caution should be met for any of these stranger type swaps. You just never know....

Now had you met and became friendly with someone who just happened to be staying about the same time and wanted to do a swap... GREAT if that thing is what you like to do. But to throw yourself out there to perfect strangers seems ..well scary

I'm not sure I'd like that; I've never been a big fan of turkey gimlets ..i can't see that being too much better.

And you want a fight? I'm on the LIE right now...name the time and place and bring the vodka..just leave any turkey stuff at home

Well, you know you can meet crazy people anywhere! Anyone that sees you out somewhere can decide to stalk you! I agree that there are crazy, sick people online. But, there are crazy, sick people everywhere you go!

I have met some great people online and I'm not ashamed to admit that I met my husband online! We talked online and on the phone for a while and then met in person and now we've been married for 8 years and have 2 kids together plus 5 more between us from our previous marriages! Yes, I took a chance on meeting him in person but, I could have taken the same chance by meeting him at a club or in the grocery store or even at church.

I am also the one that is accepting these items from the OP. I do like to trust people but, I am not stupid! Of course I would only keep items that were sealed!! And I'm sure that's all the OP would offer!!

Someone can tamper with things anywhere! The only way you are going to ensure that your food isn't tampered with is to grow and can it yourself!!! You want to make your skin crawl?? Stop and think about what the cook at your local restaurant COULD be doing to your food! Or what the guy working in the plant COULD do before the packages are sealed! I'm not going to spend my whole life worrying!!

Anyway,TinkerCarol, I appreciate the offer and so does my family! Thank you again!!

Now I've got my 2 cents in and I feel better....:rotfl: :rotfl:
