Do mind me asking you what you did to raise the money? I'm doing that next year if I don't get in again and am trying to see what's out there now for ideas if it comes up.
i didn't do any fundraisers or anything like that. i was prepared to do some bake sales, etc but it never came to that! the american cancer society (and i think pretty much all of them) gives you a fundraising webpage that you can customize and personalize. i talked about why i was raising money, etc. i sent emails out to pretty much everyone i know. are you on facebook? put it on your facebook. like, alot. people need to be reminded of it b/c they won't remember if you just put it once or twice. i would post it every couple of days and add something like, "i did a 16 mile run!" so people would know i was serious!
do you work? email all of your co-workers. does your company offer gift matching? remind your co-workers to fill out what they need to to get the gift match. my company matched many contributions.
ask all of your local merchants. like, i walked into my dry cleaners and he said, "hey nancy what's up?" and i said, "how about a donation to beat cancer?" lol. hair dresser, meat guy, produce guy (i live in the bx where people still have their "guys"). flyers up around your neighborhood and in mailboxes.
you can definitely do it and it's a great way to race - doing it for a cause
