Anyone visit WDW over Thanksgiving/Columbus Day?

I am looking to plan a trip for DS and I and am trying to figure out when to go. I thought Thanksgiving would be good, as he would miss 1 day less of school, it would be a 'lower' season for WDW and we could still do F&W and MNSSHP. However, I just realized it is also Columbus Day and started to worry that perhaps I should consider another timeframe as this might actually be a fairly busy time to visit. We traditionally plan our trips during slow times as I am not a fan of crowds. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

We have gone that time of year for the last 3 years and love it. It is a bit busy on the weekend but nothing like the "high" season. The weather is fantastic. We just got back from WDW in Feb and I was very sad because it was so cold. I say go for it!!

We went during Canadian Thanksgiving in 2009. It was very busy. Free dining had been extended so the resorts and parks were buzzing. It also happened to be HOT every day we were there. We hit both waterparks and spent a lot of time at the pool. We loved it but the locals were really complaining about the heat as they had never seen it that hot that late into the year. As long as free dining is not extended it will be a really nice time to go. If it is extended well free food = crowds.

I already booked my Canadian Thanksgiving weekend 3 nights trip. Like you said I save 1 of my vacation day by going then. Planning to go to Food and wine Fest. and Mickey's Holloween party.

I'll be there again at that time of year.

It was warm last year, I do remember the locals saying it was warmer than usual. I found it to be a great temperature, much better than our September trip.

Crowds were busier that weekend. The parks were open later, which helped.

We will at WDW from Oct 7-15. I am glad to hear it is a great time to visit. I have a question for those who have been there over the long weekend. Which is the busier day Sunday or Monday? We are planning on a day away from the parks and I am trying to decide which would be the busier one.

We found the Monday busier We were at DHS that day also though.

We were there last Oct. the week leading up to the Thanksgiving/Columbus Day weekend. The weather was HOT and HUMID but we didn't find the crowds too bad early in the week. We were there for free dining and even though the restaurants were busy the parks didn't seem to be too bad. We went to Typhoon one day and didn't have to wait for anything. It was great. We spent lots of time by the pools at CSR as well especially at mid day.

But on Saturday we went to MK and it was crazy. I would hate to see the park on Christmas or at Easter if a long weekend is any indication. We made use of fast passes the best we could but it was as busy a day as I've experienced at MK. We watched Wishes from the hub and it was wall to wall people.

I would certainly consider going again at this time of year.
