Hello

Just wondering if anyone had ever used their AA card to get AAA discounts - it says on both websites that you can. But when we called the AA about getting another card they just said - show the one you have because it has the 'show & save' logo on the back - but it does not say AAA.

I wonder if people in the US have acepted the AA card or not - has anyone tried?
Thanks for any info.
Claire:cool:

I'd call again and ask a different member of the AA to see if you get the same answer. I can't see anyone in America going for it (using the UK AA card). If you get the same story a second time maybe you could contact the AAA and ask them.

You need to call the AA over here on this number:0870 241 6163 and ask for the North American AAA "Show Your Card & Save" card. It takes about 2 weeks to come through. When you get through to the AA over here they go through your membership details (to make sure you are a member;) ) then press the button to make sure you get the AAA affiliate card:D

I've just done it!:D

Dreams Unlimited are now checking how much discount I can get off my Poly booking, which according to the US boards seems to be around 10-20% depending on resort. So well worth the phone call for that alone.

We've also seen them widely used in visitor attractions (non-theme park admittedly) throughout Florida, hence why I've bothered to get one this year for when we travel down to Marco Island, Everglades, Miami etc. :D

I have successfully used the AAA 'card' (actually a piece of paper which I had to cut out  ) for a 10% discount at SeaWorld. I had my AA card ready to show together with the paper AAA slip, but I wasn't asked for it.

When we were on the Gulf Coast a few years ago we went to a nature park and the cashier, hearing our British accents, asked whether we were AA members. We didn't have the AAA slips then, so replied that we were AA members but not AAA. He said we could just show our AA cards for anywhere advertising the AAA discounts.

It was so simple to get the AAA version that we've taken them ever since, but we didn't encounter the problems that you have, Claire. Hope you get it sorted out okay.

Thanks Vernon & Mrs Dazzle!

Mrs D - that is the exact number we called - just a couple of days ago and they told us they were no longer doing a seperate card - just to show the one we have as it does say 'show & save' on the back. I wonder when you called to order yours? Could their policy have just changed?

Vernon - It seems you are probably right, try once more and see if we get a different answer!

Claire

Thanks to you too Hilary - nice to know someone has used it to get a discount - we were posting at the same time - I am a little slow!! :-)))

Claire - I remember the chappy's name I spoke to on that number - Gavin. That was only four days ago . . . . so unless they've changed their policy pretty darned quick, I'd be tempted to ring again and hope you speak to someone who knows perhaps a little more:rolleyes:

Good luck.

Hi all, I rang 30 mins ago on the No. you gave and had no problem at all (once I'd got past press 1, press 4 etc). As I'm not going till Easter the lady just checked to make sure nothing she was sending expired before we went, then asked for my membership No. and we were done.

I seem to remember that if you bought a new car that came with free AA cover you don't qualify for a AAA card.

Can anyone confirm or otherwise?

Thanks all - the lady we spoke to on the AA number must have been mistaken. Will be calling again.

Smiles,
Claire

Anyone know if this also applies to Llordstsb customers? I get free AA with my account but dont have a card cos you just phone the number and give them your bank account number to verify.

COlUK, you took the words right out of my mouth, I was scrolling thru these messages and was going to ask the exact same question about the LLoydsTSB select account, as my wife and I have membership of the AA through our joint account with the TSB, so I will await any replies with interest.

We got a AAA card the last time we went and used it at Epcot and got a discount of our Leave a Legacy cant quite remember how much discount was. My MIL & FIL are just back from Florida and brought all the park leaflets back for us to read and on the back of the Universal & IOA maps there is a picture of the AAA card and next to it it says you can receive 10% off food and merchandise purchases at select gift shops & restaurants at both theme parks and select Universal City Walk restaurants.Discount not available at food and merchandise carts.(Excludes tobacco, film, collectibles and sundry items.) You can also go to a desk in the eating area of Orlando Premium Outlets on Vineland Road show your AAA card and get a Discount Voucher Booklet for the shops there, my MIL & FIL said the booklet is worth getting they used the vouchers in a lot of the shops. A lot of other places that you can use this card have a little AAA card on the doors as you go in. I hope this helps a little:Pinkbounc

Thanks for all the info ~ I have just telephoned the AA and my pack will be out in the next two weeks.

Is it just US/IOA and Seaworld that you can get discounts at or are there any at WDW.

Unfortunately this is true. You are a member of the car's scheme - which can be provided by AA, but as such you are not an AA member.

My SIL has AA membership through his company car. My daughter phoned the free phone number and received the pack with the show your card and save card. It saved us a ton of money at the AAA office just off the 192 on theme park tickets. At the time they had a good deal on Universal AP's, I think we paid about the equivalent of £66 for them. When you think the AP's mean you don't have to pay for parking, and 10% of food and merchandise in the park, it was a great deal, they AP's practically paid for themselves. We also got good price on Disney tickets. Well worth doing.

p.s. We got the low down through the DIS Board of course and all you super contributors whose knowledge and willingness to share good info helps so many others. Hope I can do the same.

Ann.

I received my booklet just 3 or 4 days after requesting it.
Apparently they do not issue a card - you can use your own AA card to get the discounts.

I have used my AA card to get discounts in the USA without any problems - we didn't know you could get a AAA card, and when we asked if they had any discounts available, the man asked me if I had a AAA card, I offered my AA card which he said was fine - after that we just asked if they had a AAA discount and the AA card was accepted everytime.
(We were travelling around New England booking hotels each evening as we arrived in a new place)
