Our youngest DS will be 1 year old when we visit the World. I will have a stroller for him but I was thinking about getting something to wear. I need something that is quick and easy to put on. The Hip Hammock looks good. Anyone use it?

Our DS was one on our last trip. I cannot begin to tell you how incredibly wonderful the hip hammock was! It literally made our trip. I would just pop him in when we would get in line for a ride and he was perfectly happy. Most rides I could also just reposition him and just keep him in it to ride. He even napped in it while we went on Pirates! I highly recommend it!!

Have you considered a soft structured carrier? The patapum, beco and ergo are all excllent and the MOST comfy thing you will every wear.

It might be easier to tell me what rides I can't use this on. How about HM, Buzz, Nemo (clam mobiles). I'm not sure if he can ride on those? I love the idea of having him on my hip and then moving him to the front when I need to sit down.

Thank for the suggestions, I looked into the brands you suggested...they don't seem WDW friendly IMHO. But this is new for me bringing a child that can not walk to WDW. :)

We have used one of these and really liked it, but I must admit that I REALLY loved our ERGO even better. If you only had so many dollars to spend on one, I would spend a little more and get the ERGO. We went through and grew out of our Hip Hammock, but FWIW I can still use our ERGO with our almost 4 year olds if necessary. It does take a little bit of practice to be able to use them by yourself, but it is very doable!

BTW, if you do choose to go with the Hip Hammock, if you can't get it positioned correctly it will start to weigh on your neck and shoulder. I have heard that if you tighten it more it will get more comfortable. I think that the logical thing is to loosen it, but it does better if it's tighter.

Good luck with your choice!

I've got the Hip Hammock & use it pretty regularly with DS (2). It can get a bit uncomfortable at times, but as PP said, it helps to tighten it rather than loosen it, which took me a while to figure out.

I've done 2 trips with my ds in our Beco. It is the most comfy carrier. I use it almost exclusively on my back. It's perfect for walking around and for waiting in line. My ds was 20 mos the first time I used it at
WDW. Never any back pain at all. I always wore him in line then took him off or flipped him to the front right before we got on the ride.

For our trip to DL when he was 7 mos I used a mei tai. Loved that as well, but much prefer a soft structured carrier. The hip hammock would work but I think if you plan on carrying your child extensively in a carrier, something like the Ergo/beco is far more comfortable. It just has a ton more support.

I took either two or three trips with my ds in the hip hammock. It was wonderful!!! i agree with the pp who said you made it more comfortable by tightening it.

I used my on HM, POTC, Safari, IASW, Peter Pan, Snow White, Pooh, and many others I'm not thinking of right now.

I loved it for the buses too. Because my mom had my older son and the diaper bag and I could carry my baby and the stroller. And if I had to stand on the bus I knew I wasn't going to lose my son.

I liked the fact that he was on my side and so he could see where we were going and where we had been. I never liked the front carriers because i didn't like how they pulled on my back. With the HH I could shift my weight to the side and not strain my back!

I can't say enough about it!

I have a rosiebaby.com hip carrier and love it. I am carrier challenged and I could use this one very easily.

Not a fan of the hip hammock at all. It was way too uncomfortable and didn't redistibute the weight well. I preferred my mei tai.

I agree with some PP, and I sold mine on Craigslist about 2 months after I got it. The Hip Hammock was not very comfortable, and very hard on my neck and shoulder. I have a hotsling that I loved for hip carrying and they look way cooler as an extra bonus!

I tried the Hip Hammock and another hip carrier from One Step Ahead. My daughter hated both!

I returned the Hip Hammock b/c I could not get it comfortable on my back or shoulders. She's always been small for her age, so her weight wasn't really the issue.

She complained that both carriers would hurt her butt. She'd scream as soon as she saw me taking it out.

You might want to test it out before buying. I think Babies R Us has a display of carriers that you can try on.

I used both the Hip Hammock and the hip carrier from One Step Ahead for my youngest DSs and they were very uncomfortable for any length of time. I finally got an Ellaroo Mei Hip Baby Carrier and I loved it! It came on many Disney trips with us and I could wear it for longer periods of time. It has a bit of a learning curve, but so worth it once you get the hang of it! My youngest DS didn't walk until he was 20 months so we certainly got our $$$ worth! :thumbsup2

The Rosiebaby Mei Hip is like the Ellaroo. I think it was just cheaper and had buckles, can't remember if the Ellaroo did or not.
