With the crazy prices of car rentals this year, am hearing good things from Transportation Board about bidding on a rental through Priceline and am thinking about using it for our Halifax and Disney trips. Has anyone from Canada used this process before? It appears that all bids are in USD, but I'm assuming it would convert to Cdn (for Halifax trip)? Let me know if you have any experience with Priceline and any issues you may have had. Thx

I have not used Priceline but just recently used Hotwire for a van rental in Tampa and the rate was excellent ($187 us for 8 days). Hotwire is similar to Priceline in that you don't know exactly what you are getting until you pay for it but there is no bidding with Hotwire. I am now looking for rentals for Orlando in Aug and the rates are terrible everywhere.

Yes I have in Texas. The only thing I would do differently is try to find a credit card that covers Liability insurance when renting.

I received a great rate Malibu for $15 US a day, unlimited for a week. But Insurance was an equal amount.

I would use Priceline again for sure, just this time, get a credit card that covers Liability. My home car policy does cover everything except Liability.

I have used Priceline for car rentals in Hawaii and it was the greatest-we paid the price of a compact car and got a luxury SUV with tons of room for suitcases and all the family. We also got a great deal on a convertible another time. Be sure to check www.biddingfortravel.com and www.betterbidding.com for posts on what people have paid etc and this will allow you to bid accordingly. Good luck.:thumbsup2

Yeah I wonder if there's a way to save on insurance. The insurance car rental agencies offer always come out to be even more expensive than the car rental itself. :(

Hi there,

I'm not sure if you can do this in the US, but in Canada, I can get a rider attached to my own car insurance that will cover my rental in the US when I go. I can't remember the price, but it is definitely less then the Insurance at the rental places.

Yes, I used Priceline when we went In March this year. I got an excellent deal on a minivan for $20 a day at Orlando. No problems with the rental. As per alohamom, check out the bidding sites mentioned, start bidding well in advance and be patient. Good Luck!
