Hi! My DD wil turn 9 y/o 3 days before our trip in October. I was wondering if the new Pal Mickey would make a fun gift for her. Has anyone used one of these? Would a 9 y/o like it? I'm afraid it might get "boring" and be another $70 item I'm lugging around in my backpack! I think she might think it's fun at first, but does it lose it's "fun factor"? Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! Kathy :earsboy:

(I think they should come out w/ a "Pal Minnie", "Pal Pluto", "Pal Goofy",etc!!! and just think of the sales w/ a "Princess Pals" line!!!) :goodvibes

this will be our third year bringing it on our vacation. My DD (3.5) carries it around under her arm usually the whole time. When you walk around with it, it vibrates and then you squeeze his hand and he tells you a joke or interesting fact about the park and area where you are walking at that time. He also vibrates to tell you what rides have no wait and when parades begin and things like that. Around the Haunted Mansion, he'll say stuff like "we're not going in there are we?, and I think he shakes because he's scared if you get on the ride. He's fun to have when walking around Disney World. ::MickeyMo

Hope this helps!!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

I think my DD would love it! Now........Do I tell my DH how much he costs?!!!!
His name is Mark but it should be "Miser" ....he thinks anything like that is a waste of money where I think it's fun!!! What to do?....... :confused3 Kathy

I bought MYSELF a Pal Mickey this past July and he was lots of fun to carry around. Plenty of information too!

My 2 DD's were fighting ovr who got to hold him. We are back home and whenever I feel a little blue because I miss Disney, I just squeeze his little white glove and I let him tell me a joke..... I feel like I got my own peice of WDW with me each time!

Bought a Pal Mickey on my past trip and I love him! He's so much fun in the parks and even at home, he makes me feel a little bit closer to WDW, even though I'm in NJ :goodvibes

I'm 21 and I had fun with him, I can only imagine how a little kid would be! :flower:

We loved Pal Mickey - bought one last year when my dd was 9. This year she gave him to her 2 year old dcousin because she has been saving her money to get the new one.

He is especially great at Animal Kingdom - had extra information on every single animal during the jungle trek.

Also for added fun when he gets near character Minnie he starts to vibrate and says something about "can you feel my heart beat, my sweetie Minnie must be near". Cracked us up! We could barely get her autograph because he kept vibrating so she took him and gave him a big hug for the photo! ::MinnieMo

You can always remind him that Mickey can be brought back on trip after trip! That's how I'm justifing the expense to myself :goodvibes

We bought Pal Mickey right after he came out a few years ago. My son now 9 still loves it! We have made numerous trips back, and he has gone with us except for this past June when we could not find him. My son cried and cried because he had to go to Disney without him! We recently found him hiding in my son's dresser drawer so he will be heading back with us in November. He is well worth the money, and the jokes will crack you up!

Have fun!
Laura

Do you think a just turning 13 yr old would like it. I know she would not be embarassed by carying it but do you think she would find the info fun / interesting.

Last October, our then almost-9-year-old daughter had saved money to buy a Pal Mickey as soon as we arrived in WDW. She loved it. It was also a nice distraction while waiting in line. The cm's at the rides also made special efforts to recognize pal mickey. He was so much fun, I seriously considered buying one for myself!

We're going on a WDW surprise trip in 4 weeks and I have a reminder note to pack him again for her. Our almost-10-year-old wouldn't be happy if he wasn't there!

The Pal Mickey sounds great! I heard you can rent him too. If you pay to rent him for a day or two and then want to buy him, do you know if they apply that money towards the cost of the Pal Mickey? :confused3 Sounds like I'll want to buy him, but DH may want to try him out before purchase.

I've had my Pal Mickey since the first year he came out. He has gone back with us every year. DH just laughs at me, but what can I say. I love him! DH asked me what I want for my upcoming birthday, I told him another Pal Mickey (the one in the tux)! This way when we are in the parks my original Pal Mickey can come since it is casual wear, when we go out to dinner the tux Pal Mickey will come since he's dressed for an evening out! :rotfl:

You daughter will love him. His jokes are corny, but you can't help but laugh.

JELBoggio... I'm not sure if you can still rent Pal Mickey or not. I thought I heard that they stopped the rental program.

By the way, I hook my Pal onto the straps of my backpack. That way my hands are free, he is easily accesible, and I can hear everything he has to say.

 MY PAL MICKEY!

A few months ago, I bought pal mickey from the character outlet in orlando. There was information either on this board or mousesavers (don't remember which). Anyway - it was last years model and much less expensive - I think around $40 including tax and shipping. I brought it with me this summer. Mickey's jokes are corny but cute. I am going to give him to my nephews for their upcoming trip and I'll be they love him.

It says on allearsnet that they've discontinued the rental program.

A related question - do they still have those little hand held computer games that you can buy? Friends of ours went in 2003 and got one for their son. They said it was about $20, and you can download new games at several places throughout the park. They said it was great to keep the kids occupied in line for rides.

They no longer offer a rental version. It's a purchase only item now.

I love my Pal Mickey...

My granddaughter (8) loves hers too. I must say though, that after the 7th day he got a little heavy. :goodvibes But she had her digital camera, her Tinkerbell fanny pack, her mist fan.. it was a little much. So for the last 4 days I carried them both! I liked to listen to hers as mne is a day one Pal Mickey and hers was newer. It sure shook more!!!

But we loved him. :cloud9:

I am definitely getting one for our next trip...the question is WHICH ONE? I can get a brand new "old" one or I can get the tux version. Obviously, the older one is cheaper...is there enough of a difference to get the new one?

If you are going to buy him at WDW play the PAL Mickey game, print out the coupon and get a free pin with him, here is the link: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/special/specialindex?id=PalMickeyPage&bhcp=1

I love PAL Mickey!! I could not think of going to Disney without him. I have the old version and I read somewhere, a while ago, that if you take him to main street they can update your old one, does anyone know if that is true?? And for those who are worried about what age is appropriate for PAL Mickey, ALL ages are appropriate. :goodvibes I am 37 and I love him!!
