Anyone use mPoints/mPlaces apps?

I started using this when it came up on my Weather Channel app and just downloaded mPlaces today. Anyone have some tips? Seems like you can pretty much check in at places even when you're not necessarily that close by. Looks like it make take a while to accumulate points, but the rewards seem pretty good.

I've been using it for a while now. I would say that I get enough points for a $5 gc every 4-5 days (depending on how many coins I get in my rewards boxes). I always try to get as many of the high point places as I can on the way to and from work and just before I get home, I will finish off with the 10 point check-ins.
I guess you've noticed that you can get 25 check-ins a day on the app as opposed to 15 using the weather channel?
If you're on twitter that's good for 20 points/day if you tell it to tweet for you from each app (weather and mpoints). I have it tweet, then go back and delete them. There's a 1 or 2 question survey every day on each one, too that's good for 5-20 points.
I've also noticed that for some places (my Target for instance) you have to be in the parking lot. For others, you can do it from the street. The weird one is a Home Depot near my workplace--I can't get the points in the place, but can get them from a parking lot across the street (a 4 lane highway, at that).
Some nights, my daughter and I will go on points run if we have nothing to do just to hit up the high point check-ins near us. lol

I've just started using this also. I like that you can check in at lots of places in a parking lot at one time. But it's been over 2 weeks & I haven't earned enough for a $5 gift yet, so it does seem to take a long time to add up. But I do like it a little better than Shopkick because there are a lot more check in opportunities and I don't have to go around scanning items for points.

I've never heard of this. What is it?

Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely going to make a twitter account to use in conjunction with this to get more points. That seems pretty good on point values if you're doing it consistently like that. I checked into a bunch of surrounding stores from the parking lot of a Wal-mart yesterday, so I'm thinking I'll try to do the same at work!

I enjoy Shopkick, but lately it seems like it's been forever since they updated with more scans. I finished scanning everything I had yesterday for Wal-Mart, Target, Petco, and Best Buy.

It's an app that just came up on my Weather Channel app that allows you to get points for opening it in the Weather Channel app everyday. It also has an mPlaces app that you can use to check in to different stores. I've managed to accumulate a little over 800 points so far and just checked in a few places yesterday and had just been checking the weather everyday before. It has Target gift cards, so it's worth a try for me!

Ok I'm confused - what is the difference between mPoints & mPlaces?

I don't fully understand the difference as well so that's my fault haha. But whenever I go to Weather Channel there's a little box for me to click on and it will have something where I can "tap in" for 2 points and then I'll get so many points for checking Weather channel every day or something like that. mPlaces definitely appears to be the more efficient way to get points though.

Ok - getting clearer for me! Do the points you earn from the weather app combine with the points you earn on the mPlaces app?

Yes, when I downloaded mPlaces I logged in and it had my points already loaded on there. There are a number of apps that use mPoints apparently, but Weather Channel was the only one I used. It seems mPlaces is more profitable though.

I still kinda go back and forth between using the weather channel for some points and the mPlaces app for some points. That way I get the achievement points from both apps faster. I also tweet daily from both places and do the survey from each place daily.
The points do carry from one app to the other, altho it may take a few minutes for them to show up on the app you didn't use to earn them.
On the way home from work. I drove by Home Depot (2 different ones), Target, Denny's, Sprint, T-Mobile (2 of them show up at the same intersection), and Cricket for 485 points.
I'll go out for a little bit later and use the rest of my daily check-ins by going by the same places again.
in the month of July, I've redeemed for $20 in Target gcs and will have enough points to redeem 1 more before month's end. Some of those points were earned toward the end of June and redeemed early July.
It doesn't earn a ton but for basically doing nothing, I think it's great.

When you redeem for Target gift cards, can you use them online? I made a deal with myself that any gift cards/money earned from apps (Swagbucks, mPlaces, Shopkicks, etc.) will go towards purchasing Disney gift cards for the next trip. So I'm really after the cards that can be used online in conjunction with my Red Card to buy the Disney gift cards!

Yes--you get e-gift cards. I've used mine to buy Disney gcs

Ok-- did you see the new challenge on mplaces? That thing is worth a ton of points by the time you finish it. I think we figured it out at almost 900 points and no check in required. I've only got 4 pieces left to get so I'll finish it in the morning.
And I'll redeem for another gc in the morning. About 300 points short right now

Thanks for the tips. I downloaded Mpoints when I set up my vacation countdown app. At the rate I was going I thought it would take me a year to get anything. But I see check in are the key. Will start doing these now!
