Anyone use ME, but carry your own luggage?

We are considering using ME for our October trip, but I am wondering if you can use them for transportation only and carry your own bags to and from the resort?

A lot of people take their luggage on the bus with them. There are bays under the bus to store the luggage and when you get to the resort the driver will give it back to you.

I was wondering this same question. just wanted to make sure my luggage got there, i'm wicky picky about those things. Many have called me crazy and obsesive but i'm the same why about cleaning the house. I guess it's not always a bad thing :rotfl2:

So I guess you would just skip the step of putting the ME luggage tags on your luggage, pick up your bags from baggage claim and then check in at the ME counter?

We went to WDW the first day that ME was unveiled (May 5). We didn't receive our ME tags in time, so we were told to just get our bags and go to check-in. That's exactly what we did. Just get on the shuttle and go down to the luggage carousel (you have to go there anyway b/c of the shuttle). Get your bags and go to the ME desk to check in. Then, carry your bags into the queue they tell you to go to. When you load the bus, the driver will put them in the storage bins. The driver will also unload for you when you get to the resort.

We were so glad that we had to deal w/our own luggage on May 5th b/c we talked to so many people who waited hours (not one or two -- but 10 to 12+) to get their luggage!!!

We're prob. going to use ME this July and plan on dealing w/our own luggage again -- just to be safe!

So, yes -- do not use the tags that they send you if you want to carry your own luggage to the bus!

I really appreciate all of these responses! I talked with my husband about this last night. We were planning on using a limo this trip - long story, but we used this same limo on our 2002 trip, there was a mix up on our return to the airport, so he said we could ride this trip for free. Honestly, I think we would feel better, free limo or not, taking Disney transportation to and from our resort. Our last 2 trips to Disney, we have been standing at our resort waiting for our ride to the airport (town car company didn't pick us up in '99 for the airport and then the limo in '02). How does that happen twice?!? Not fun!!

I think we will plan on using ME for this trip. We're just still trying to decide whether to let them handle our luggage or do that part ourselves. When we check in at POP, we plan on spending some time at the pool anyway before we go to Chef Mickey's for dinner around 7:30-8:00 p.m. (we will probably arrive at MCO around 11:30 a.m. - hopefully, we will be able to check-in). As long as we pack our swimsuits and items we need to get ready for dinner, we shouldn't be in that big of a hurry for our bags.

With our trip not being until October, I wonder if the luggage delivery time will have improved any by then? From what I'm reading now, they tell you to expect your bags within 3 hours. Oh well, just thinking out loud. Whether we handle our bags or not, I think we'll go with ME! :sunny:

I think that I'm going to pick up our luggage but use ME. We're not arriving at MCO until 945pm. We're staying 3 nights at POFQ then going on DCL for 7 nights. I don't want our luggage delivered at midnight and I really don't want to wait until 6am to find out that they lost a piece of luggage either. I'd rather know that something is wrong before we leave the airport-since we have to get on the cruise ship. If I was just staying at WDW, I'd let them take our luggage.

My DS and his DGF brought their own luggage on the ME bus. No problem at all. They had only carry-on size and brought it right on the bus with them. They did not even have them store it under the bus.

This is what my mother and I will have to do next week, since we're taking carryons only.

If I were checking luggage, I would put about an extra day's worth of clothing in a carryon and bring it with me.
