Anyone use Kayak/Orbitz/Cheap Tickets to book Airtan? If so...I have ????

Okay a friend of mine told me to book through Kayak. So I tried to do that tonight. It is the same exact price as Airtran but she says you don't have to pay for seat assignments like you do on Airtran if you want to get them ahead of time if you go through them. Well when I found the flight I wanted....it gave me a choice of booking thru Airtran, Orbitz or Cheap Tickets. I chose Cheap Tickets and went thru everything like I was going to pay and all it asked me was aisle/window for each of us. SO does it assign seats when you actually pay?? Anyone use this service??? Thanks for any suggestions/advice.

I always use kayak when I book Airtran flights. Once it takes you to Airtrans web page, you go through all the steps but when you select your seats it shows $0. Not sure if Orbitz gives you the free seat option or not. Works great with Airtran. With Airtran it brings up the seat map and you pick out your seats. There are some that are premium, but don't think you have option for those, or it shows you what $ amount it is.

THANKS. I went back and did the airtran link through Kayak and YEP no seat fees. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. I was happy to save 18 bucks for our three seats.

Do you mind if I ask why, when given the choice to book directly with the airline or through a third party, you originally selected one of the third party agencies?

Because it saves you the seat fee.

You are booking directly through the airline with Kayak.com, but they waive the seat fee when you choose your seat.

I think someone mentioned they do it because the airline gets "free" advertising on the site. I don't remember where I heard that or if it is true or not.....

Nope - that part I understand VERY clearly. I'm a big advocate of Kayak.com, and whenever necessary try to clear up any misconception that it's a third-party agency. It's not, as you all well know - it's a travel search engine.

I was confused and thought I had to choose one of the others to get the free seat assignments. I knew that Airtran charged us for them ahead of time so I thought we had to book ON Kayak but using a different agency even if Airtran popped up.
