Anyone use Fido and have an Apple phone? Roam questions

Fido roam like home used to be a great deal. Max you’d pay was $50. Now it’s over doubled in price :( awful.

You're probably right, but I did exactly what two customer reps and their website said to do, so I assumed that was enough.

You think that just keeping Airplane mode on will help? That's my only recourse at this point.

I think this exact wording via email or chat would be what I would use to fight them on these charges if that is what you plan to do.

I have done the SIM card thing and it worked great but you do end up with another phone number. I bought mine on Amazon but it did have to be activated ahead of time, I think it was the day before. I just made sure that all my important contacts had that number while I was away just in case.

I am with FIDO and usually do the airplane mode/WIFI method. I don't think I would do this for the Disney parks tho, my understanding is that the park WIFI can be slow.

If you have iPhone XS or higher (I don’t know which Androids support eSIM) and just use Data you get an eSIM thru Airalo. $4.50/1 GB, $11/3 GB (USD). I have used them for all my trips to WDW since Jan 2020.

We had the same issue earlier this year. We were away for a month but it spanned a billing period cutoff so there was effectively no cap.

We are with Rogers and the 'solution' was the Infinite Plan with Unlimited calling, texting & data in Canada & the US. It is not an inexpensive plan but makes sense for our needs. It does not come up as a Travel plan when you search. The agent mentioned it when we called.

I find the plans unnecessarily confusing, I suspect intentionally. They always seem to be changing, so what makes sense at one point does not later. They did have a promotion for this plan when we signed up and we also got a discount for a professional membership.

It would be worth phoning, maybe more than once depending on the agent you get, to see what plans FIDO has that include calling, texting & data in the US and what discounts are available.

Wow! Thanks for the info! Do you get a different phone #? I have no idea how this works. Is there a way to switch from regular sim to eSim?

No phone number as it is just a data plan. When you have an eSIM and regular Sim, You to see multiple cellular plans in your cellular settings. I have Public Mobile, so when I travel I leave PM (Primary as the Default Voice Line, and turn on the Travel (eSIM) and set it as the Celluar Data. When I return home, I just turn off the Travel Plan. 687A9314-9F1B-4328-8334-BEF0E2B4BE7B.jpeg
