Anyone use Disneyshopping.com?

I used the link through airmilesshops.ca and got some really good deals--they have 25% off stuff today only, and most of the stuff I got was from the outlet anyway...polos for the kids for $6 US, etc. The shipping kind of wiped out the discount, $35 on $75 worth of stuff, but it's still a lot for the total.

Anybody remember if they got a big additional duty or handling bill on delivery?

DD is going to look soooo cute in January in that Ariel swimsuit!!

Yes you get dinged. They send it by DHL. You will get a bill (sometimes a month later) from DHL for their handling charges ($7) and the amount of duties and taxes you owe based on what you purchased. Can get pretty expensive.

The best thing to do is if you have a friend in the states....Send it to them and then have them mail it to you. My friend sends it to me and I send her the money for the postage.

I also recommend buying and having it shipped to your resort when you go to Disney. We've done this on the last 2 trips. Just put your name and "arriving xx/xx/xx" in the name field in the shipping address and the address of the resort. It will be waiting for you in the luggage room and there should be a note on the computer when you check in. They will even have bell services deliver it to your room!

It's a fun way to save on souvenir shopping and get some really great deals!

Yes, dh and I were talking about shipping to the resort last night--nice way to have a few surprises waiting for the kids when we go. I did get a couple of things sent to our hotel last trip, a lot easier. However, I am NOT good at waiting, so one parcel with a big delivery charge, I can handle. I do have some friends in teh US I've shipped to in the past, may use that again but save it for really must-have things rather than "there's a really good sale" things. The worst I ever saw, was a box of stuff I ordered when I was pg--with a $40-odd dollar "brokerage charge" plus as much duty. My cheap clothes doubled in price, and I refused delivery! The shipper didn't do much business with Canada and didn't know or care what the brokerage charge was. I'm more careful since then! This package will be a learning experience...

i just had to pay a 18.00 duty charge on 70.00usd worth of clothing on top of the bad us/cad rate they charged and the shipping of 18.00!!
Won't do that again...

I buy a lot of stuff from LLBean, and have noticed changes over the years...the stuff to which the duty doesn't seem to apply is the "made in America" stuff. Unfortunately even LLBean makes verrrry little stuff in North America anymore--and, I couldn't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure I have paid duty on stuff made in Canada, imported to the US and then brought back by me...(they had a few specialty woolens I think made in Canada, can't remember. Or maybe footwear.) The etailers that do a lot of business with Canada, like LLBean, make it easy to find out exactly what sort of deal you're getting. In the old days, you'd order, then some weeks later get a bill from Rev Canada (sounds like the way Disney is still doing it!). I don't buy from the States for cheap anymore, unless I'm THERE, doing the outlets and bringing it back as part of my duty-free allowance. But I live in a small town and still buy over the net for the sake of variety and convenience.

Oh, and I know it's a drop in the bucket, but since the FTA, those duty-free allowances have really loosened up. At least you can go shopping on vacation and not have to sneak it all back in in your laundry bag anymore...

Its not the duty that gets you its the brokerage fee, most things are duty free now. If something is sent UPS or Fed-Ex it has to be cleared at customs and you'll usually get a bill about 2 weeks later around 11 to 18.00. If the item is sent USPS (United States Postal Service) there is no duty usually.

Ditto that! Good thing I have more than one friend in the US, so at least I'm not always bugging the same one.

Heck, I even did this when I ordered my wedding invitations (they were Disney).

I always get hit with gst/duty whenever I buy anything from the states. The postman arrives and needs a cheque for 15.00, 20.00, 30.00 or whatever.

Just to add a postscript--I paid the delivery guy an additional $35 for duty and brokerage--should be no further bills. So, my bill was about $75 US for stuff, $35 US for shipping and $35 Cdn for the rest. That's a LOT in add-ons, but I still feel like I got a deal--4 polos (2 adult), 2 swimsuits and a cover up for dd, shorts for dh, 2 tshirts for me, a tea set and a pair of small stuffies. I think the only thing that will give me pause in the future was the fee from DHL was an unknown...I didn't know what the additional add-ons were going to be. I like it better with people like LLBean who calculate everything up front. Real plus, though, DHL got it here 2-3 days after I ordered--that never happens with stuff from the states!

First off; have a GREAT trip!!

The prices are the same, BUT most of the product you see on line can NOT be found at the resort!! Especially the kitchen/around the house stuff.

There's a Veteran's Day sale on right now with free shipping on orders over $75. I don't see a date when the sale ends. I'm going to order some stuff doing what you suggest, but I won't be at WDW until early December. Using their standard 7-10 business day shipping, it'd be delivered over a week before I arrive. Can the resort hold your parcel for that long?
