I usually use National's Emerald Aisle or Dollar's Fastlane...but the rates are lowest at Avis for next April. What are the pros and cons of using Avis, and do you have one of their Wizard numbers? If you have this preferred membership, is it as easy as the Emerald Aisle or the Fastlane? Thanks for your help.
I have a wizard card through work. You bypass the counter inside the terminal and go straight to the garage. There is a counter there, they have all your paperwork and keys ready. They hand everything to you and tell you the spot # where the car is. Unlike National, you do not get to pick your car. My luck they assigned me a white Chevy Classic.... . You drive straight out, there is not a booth to get out, so it's quick.
The return is similiar to National, they have attendants with hand held machines.
We have gotten Avis several times through Priceline, including twice within the last few weeks. Normally it is a very smooth process, even though we don't have a Wizard number. Their line is usually minimal, and the cars are decent. The only time we've ever waited long was when we rented a car a week after the hurricane. So many people had rented cars and driven them out of state that the rental companies were very short. We got our car eventually but waited in the garage 30 to 45. But this past weekend things were getting back to normal, and we had our car very promptly.

I was able to get Avis off Priceline for a short trip in Oct.
Cost is $18 a day plus taxes($22 for the 3 days) total for three days is $76. Much cheaper then a towncar would of been and better then Mears. I arrive at 9:49 pm and don't care what car I get. I am only using it to get to POP on that Friday night and to get back on Monday afternoon.
I hope my expericne with AVIS is a good one.
ANyone else use AVIS???good or bad info is welcome.
I have used both Avis and National at MCO. I use Avis a lot because I am eligible to use the AARP discount code and this usually makes Avis the cheapest for me. Another feature I like about Avis is that they do not charge extra for a spouse to be a second driver. Being an Emerald Aisle Member with National also gives you this privilege but with Avis there is no extra membership requirement.
Thanks so much for your help. I was able to get a full-size 4 door car for 8 days/8 hours for $249. I did sign up to get a Wizard number and used a WalMart discount code (found on Mousesavers). I like the thought of not paying extra for a spouse. Does anyone know what their fuel policy is? I prefer to fill the tank just before returning.
They may try to sell you the option of paying for a full tank. But I have never found Avis reps to be pushy at Orlando. I have found them a little tough in Miami. I usually just fill it up myself just before returning the car and it has not been a problem.
